A late freekick denies Aber all 3 points - Aberystwyth Town 2-2 Newtown
Chris Evan' 84th minute free kick from just outside the box for the visitors summed up Abers season as they reflected on what might have been.
Luke Sherbon had a glorious chance to put the home side ahead on 11 minutes from the spot only to be denied bya fine save from the "other" Dave Jones.
Despite Aber's general domination of the first half it was Newtown who drew blood with the last kick of the first half from a fantastic strike from Karl Seliarts which went over "our Dave Jones".
On the 50th minute markfollowing a blatent back pass to the Newtown keeper Aneurin Thomas's indirect free kick drew the sides level.
75th minute Andy Evans looked to have given Aber the lead infront of the Dias stand with a spectacular strike but that was proven to be short lived as Aber conceded a free kick outside the box which was duly leaving the result 2-2 and Aberystwyth finishing 9th above Welshpool on goal difference.

Aberystwyth Town v Newtown - Match Preview
Geoff Kellaway is facing a fitness test ahead of tomorrow's game after suffering a bruised hip. Geraint Passmore is on standby.
Tomorrow's game whilst not having as much riding on it as far as league tables are concerned will be vital for the club who hope to end the season on a win and for players looking to justify their claims for a place in next season's squad.
The club would like to welcome tomorrows Mascot Murrary Pugh, his family and Llanilar Junior FC .
A minutes silence will be held before the game for Gary Pugh who sadly passed away on Sunday 6th April.

League Restructuring
Aberystwyth Town Chairman Donald Kane, Vice Chairman David Evans
and Managing Director Tony Bates (in his role as Mid-Wales representitive
on the WPL board) attended a Meeting at Park Hall, Oswestry on Sunday
to discuss the future of the Welsh Premier League.
As reported elsewhere it was confirmed that from 2010/2011 the
league will be split into 2 divisions each consisting of 10 teams
with one of the underlying factors being the stricter criteria for
a WPL Domestic license being introduced. These 10 teams will play
each other 4 times a season and are most likely to be selected on
ground criteria, club infrastructure, crowd sizes, standard of pitches
etc.
Summer football was mentioned on the agenda at the meeting 7-1
in favour with the remainder absteining and a result clubs have
been asked to discuss this further at board level and will be mentioned
at a later date.

No Premier Cup in 2008-2009 season
As widely expected following the BBC's decision to pull
the plug on its funding for the FAW Premier Cup it has been confirmed
there will be no competition next season.
Competition Secretary, Malcolm Stammers released a statement on
the official Welsh Premier Site.
"There was some initial interest from two broadcasters, although
this soon narrowed to one, and these discussions have been on-going
now for sometime. But regrettably it has not been possible to bring
them to a satisfactory conclusion that would guarantee the competition's
future."
, "At last week's Board meeting, it was agreed that I should
make contact with all the shareholders (and potential shareholders)
and advise them of the current situation, which is that there will
not be a competition in season 2008/09 so that all are aware for
planning purposes with regard to next season."
"The Board agreed, as it has done so far, to continue to 'leave
no stone unturned', in trying to secure the competition's future,
but as it stands there will be no competition in season 2008/09."
"The Board will meet again in early summer to ascertain whether
the situation has changed at all and until that time I will be making
the usual arrangements for the conclusion of the financial year
and the calling of the Annual General Meeting."
"The Board felt that shareholders and possible participating
clubs needed to be made aware of the situation prior the end of
the current season"

of the Season Competition', where it's the Fans Turn to
be the Boss! The League are always looking for ways to involve the
most important people in the game - The Fans - So here's your chance
to get involved and have some fun!
All you need to do, is think of a team of eleven players that have
impressed you in the League the most this season and you could win
2 International Tickets for a home Wales Match of your choice in

and the highest scorers in their position from all of the entries
will be named in the Official Supporters Team of the Year.
The Competition Prize will be given to the individual who picks

Led Zeppelin support Aberystwyth Town
Football Club! Legendary rockers Led Zeppelin have forwarded
to Aberystwyth Town Football Club a signed souvenir concert programme
from their recent reunion concert in London.
Most people do not realise that the proceeds from the ticket sales
at the concert are to provide music scholarships created in the
name of the late Ahmet Ertegun at schools in New York, England and
Turkey. Souvenir programmes from the concert will undoubtedly become
collectors’ items in the future but a programme specially
signed by the three rock legends is bound to be of tremendous interest
to devotees of the group who may have performed together for the
last time.
Chairman of the Board Tony Bates explained to atfc.org.uk:
“I have known Robert Plant for some time and prior to the
recent massively successful concert at the O2 Stadium, I asked him
to obtain for me a programme signed by himself, Jimmy Page and John
Paul Jones which the football club would be able to auction in aid
of club funds. Robert is a very keen football supporter and he was
happy to oblige.”
The programme will be auctioned at a future function to be held
at the football club in order to provide much needed funds for the
Club. In addition to the programme, the successful bidder will also

The Blue side of Birmingham to
visit Park Avenue
Following on from the success of the pre-season visit of Everton
another English Premier League Club is set to visit Park Avenue.
Birmingham City have confirmed a pre-season friendly with the Black
and Green at Park Avenue. Coincidentially this is also likely to
be the first game on the new playing surface.
The club is delighted that this game has been agreed through contact
with the Aberystwyth Town Academy. First team assistant manager
and Academy Director Martyn Griffiths explained that Birmingham
have been watching and monitoring the progress of a couple of the
Academy players and were more than happy to agree a visit to Park
Avenue.
Although the precise date has yet to be confirmed the visit of a
Birmingham City side is likely to be during the second week of August.

Aber Town lose 2 Green Legends
Two of Aberystwyth Towns most influential ex players passed
away over the weekend. Eddie Ellis and Roger Davies both represented
the town with great distinction in the Post War era.
Several tributes have come in for Roger Davies all of which
can be found here
Eddie made 141 appearences scoring 253 times between 1939 and 1952.
His exploits as a phenominal goal scorer are well documented. He
won a Welsh Amateur Cap in 1947 and broke the clubs goal scoring
record on numerous occasions. Invitations followed to persue a career
in football with trials at Arsenal rejected as Dr E L Ellis chose
to follow an academic path. He returned to Aberystwyth and had lived
in Rhydyfelin for a number of years.
Eddie has his own Green legends page which cane be found here
The club is deeply saddened by the untimely death of both players
who had braved their illness's with dignity and strength. Our sympathies
go out to their families at this sad time.

Why no return for Jamie Reed?
With the Welsh Premier’s transfer window closing at the end
of the month, Reed would have been required to have renewed his
loan deal at Aber until the rest of the campaign.
However, by going on loan to Blue Square North side Tamworth (who
are not affected by the transfer window regulations), it will be
possible for him to be recalled by the Racecourse club (which own
him) before the end of the season if Wrexham manager Brian Little
decides he is required by the League Two strugglers.
Aber Brian Coyne said: “By going on loan to Tamworth for a
month at least he still has the option of going back to Wrexham
before the end of the season and continue to further his career.
We wish him the best.”

the services of Jamie Reed but that does pave the way for Andy Evans
to stake his claim for a regular first team place .
Captain Bari Morgan misses out being suspended and there are slight
doubts about Gareth Hughes and Luke Sherbon.
NEWI are currently 12th in the league 4 points Aber and lost heavily
to Llanelli 5-2 last game but beat Airbus UK 4-1 before.
Reminder there is a coach leaving Park Avenue at 10am

"Baby Gari Lou" and Jamie
Reed depart
Gari Lewis has signed for WPL rivals Caersws after his
16 year career with the Black and Green came to an end.
There was much talk of him signing for Cymru Alliance side Penrhyncoch
which did not come to fruitation. The 32 year old has recently been
playing rugby again.
We wish him well for the future
Meanwhile manager Brian Coyne will no doubt be left disappointed
after Wrexham opted to send Jamie Reed out on loan to Conference
North side Tamworth on loan rather than extend his spell at Park
Avenue.
Reed incidentally scored for Wrexham Res on Tue night in a 5-3 defeat
to Carlisle in the Pontins League

Future of the Welsh Premier League
Aberystwyth Town Managaing Director Tony Bates attended
a board meeting of the Welsh Premier League yesterday (Thursday
10) when concern was expressed that a strategic plan which potentially
could affect the Welsh Premier League had been prepared without
the knowledge or input of the board of the Welsh Premier League.
As the plan has not yet been considered by the Council of the FAW
and as we have not seen the report itself it would be premature
to comment on the extracts referred to in the Press.
However the Board is urgently seeking talks with the FAW to discuss
the future structure of the League of Wales and the possibility
of the big three Clubs joining the League of Wales will be just
one of the matters to be considered.

The Exiles in the Welsh Premier???
Club Director David Hinton-Jones today
told atfc.org.uk Aberystwyth Town would support the idea of Cardiff,
Swansea and Wrexham being permitted to field teams in the Welsh
Premier and its associated competitions as well as participating
in the English system.
We believe that the participation of these professional clubs
would be a benefit to the Welsh Premier which needs to attract
more spectators.
Quite how this can be achieved is difficult to see given UEFA
regulations and it’s certainly not inevitable that the idea
would be attractive to the professional clubs. If a concession
is to be made by UEFA it should be made in respect of the Welsh
Cup but even then the English FA would call foul
