Dafabet Welsh Premier League Saturday 24th September (ko 5.15pm) Cardiff Met v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town's Players, Officials and Supporters are still walking on air after Tuesday night's astonishing five goal hammering of Carmarthen Town, and those of a Black and Green persuasion are looking forward to an opportunity to demonstrate their prowess in front of a live TV audience at Cardiff Met this Saturday evening. Geoff Kellaway's hat trick will of course take all the attention from Tuesday night's win, but equally satisfying to Manager Matthew Bishop will have been a defensive solidity and team ethic which saw the Players fight for each other all over the pitch, and joyous celebrations between the Players and Supporters demonstrating a remarkable unity after a tough run of results. Luke Borrelli will miss out having seen red at Waundew but other than that Bishop has a full squad to choose from. Manager Matthew Bishop told Aber Town's Youtube Channel on Tuesday night: "I'm so proud of the Players for the Performance, Commitment and Desire they showed. They were outstanding. We've got to kick on now and make sure it's not just a one off." Watch the full interview here. Cardiff Met come into the game off the back of two huge wins, at Llandudno and at home to Newtown as the Students finally turn good performances into results. Ex-Black and Greens in the Met's roster include Christian Edwards, who played 89 games for the Club at Centre Back before moving on to the Management Team between 2009-11. Met's Central defensive anchor Emlyn Lewis from Pennant was a mainstay of Town's Under 19s side and Penrhyncoch before moving to Cardiff to study, and Aber Town Club Sponsor and ex-Keeper Richard Morgan (142 appearances) is now Goalkeeping Coach at Cyncoed. It's certain to be an engrossing match on the 3G surface at Cyncoed and kick off will be at 5.15pm to facilitate live TV Coverage of Sgorio. A supporters Minibus will leave Park Avenue at 12.45pm, costing just £10 return, and for those wishing to travel independently directions to the Cyncoed Campus are as follows: Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cyncoed Campus, Cyncoed Road, CF23 6XD. To find the Campus Town Supporters are advised to enter Cardiff via Junction 32 of the M4 and proceed down the A470 to the Gabalfa Flyover before turning left onto the A48 in the direction of Newport. Coming off the A48 at the next junction, take the first exit and proceed across the next roundabout, and the Campus will appear on your left in roughly a mile. Campus parking details can be found here. Aberystwyth Town FC can confirm that our Dafabet Welsh Premier League matches against Bala Town in November have been moved from the Sundays to the preceding Fridays.
The matches will now take place as follows: Friday November 11th Aberystwyth Town v Bala Town (ko 7.45pm) Friday November 25th Bala Town v Aberystwyth Town (ko 7.45pm) These derby games have traditionally attracted good crowds on Friday nights so the Clubs hope that this trend will continue in 2016/7. Aberystwyth Town are pleased to announce the return, on loan, of 28 year old TNS Goalkeeper Chris Mullock, who made his second debut for the Club last night with a clean sheet in Aber's 5-0 win at Carmarthen. Wrexham-born Mullock joined TNS from Cymru Alliance side, Cefn Druids in the summer of 2013 and spent the majority of the 2013/14 season on loan at Newtown after joining the Robins in September 2013. Chris famously kept a clean sheet against Finnish Giants, MyPa in the Europa League first qualifying round and helped his former team mates to a famous draw. He has played for Druids, Newtown, Aberystwyth Town and TNS since making his WPL debut in 2006/7. Chris had a spell at Aber last season, playing 4 times in the Autumn of 2015, and last night's assured appearance for the Black and Greens gives him a career total of 86 Dafabet WPL appearances. Chris will wear the Number 26 shirt and everyone at Aberystwyth Town welcomes him to the Club. We wish him all the best for his Loan Period at Park Avenue. Dafabet Welsh Premier League Tuesday 20th September Carmarthen Town 0 Aberystwyth Town 5 Aberystwyth Town overturned the form books with an astonishing five goal win at close rivals Carmarthen last night, scoring three late goals after being reduced to ten men. A brilliant hat trick from Geoff Kellaway and further strikes from Luke Borrelli and Kurtis March put the icing on the cake for terrific Town. For the first time in a number of weeks Manager Matthew Bishop had a full squad to choose from, although Sam Rodon was injured in the warm up and replaced by returning Captain Luke Sherbon. On loan signing Chris Mullock went straight into goal and imposed himself from the start with a commanding performance. Aber started off trying to pass the ball round, and although the fluency took a while to come they took the lead in the 11th minute when a Ricky Watts throw out on the right wing fell for Borrelli, and the Llanelli Livewire swivelled on a sixpence to send a low volley under Lee Idzi. This was a major break at a great time for Town and set them up for a composed performance. Liam Thomas headed over from a corner for Carmarthen and then Borrelli chested the ball down for Kellaway to send a shot fizzing wide. Next Kellaway went on a thrilling burst down the right and set up Chris Jones, but he was denied by Idzi. Town’s pace was worrying the leaden footed Carmarthen defence, and Borrelli sent a shot just wide before Greg Walters cantered into the box only to be denied at the last minute. Carmarthen’s one dimensional tactics were being neutralised by a strong defensive performance from the defensive axis of Mullock, Will Bell and Ryan Wollacott, and although there were few clear cut chances for either side in the first half Aber certainly deserved to go in a goal ahead. Once Aber had survived a predictable but half hearted early onslaught from Carmarthen the scene was set for them to cut free after the break. Joe Clarke won a corner which Jones sent in and Wollacott’s header flashed dramatically past the post. Borrelli was working his socks off up front for Aber and was extremely unfortunate to be mistakenly yellow carded for a handball incident. Then came the game changing moment, as Walters gambolled down the left flank before spotting Kellwaway’s angled run, and the former slotted through a cute ball for the latter to score with a thrilling footed strike on the hour. Wollacott had a goalbound header deflected wide, and then on 66 minutes a flashpoint erupted. With Carmarthen’s increasingly desperate looking team now reduced to lunging in it was inevitable perhaps that a conflagration would occur and after a visiting player was fouled the hosts instigated a dust up which saw three yellow cards and a sending off for the unfortunate Borrelli. Aber made the best of things and clinical Kellaway’s pace now turned a win into a whallopping. His burst down the left wing on 71 minutes lead to a cross which was turned in by the gleeful Kurtis March, leading to huge celebrations in front of Aber’s tifosi. Kellaway then dispossessed Vincent and nearly grabbed a fourth, but with 11 minutes left Chris Jones released him down the left and he blasted home for 4-0. The fun was not yet finished and in the 87th minute Chris Jones’ shot down the left was parried by Idzi and who else but clinical Kellaway was there to crown the individual performance of the season with a goal from ten yards, and an astonishing five nil win. After a tough few weeks Aber’s Players and Supporters shared an otherworldly surge of joy at the end of the game, celebrating together. The euphoria was real enough but in this crazy Dafabet Welsh Premier League Season Carmarthen finished the night three places ahead of Aber on goal difference, and other results mean that the Black and Greens are level with the Top Six but only two points ahead of the bottom side Airbus. The intrigue continues at Cardiff Met on Saturday. It’s never boring with the Black and Greens! Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Sunday 18th September Gap Connah’s Quay 4 Aberystwyth Town 0 Goals from Matty Williams, Shelton Payne and two headers from Black and Greens’ bête noire Les Davies consigned Aber to another heavy defeat at the Deeside Stadium this afternoon. Despite the eventual result the Black and Greens defended fairly well in the first half, restricting the hosts to two shots on target in a scrappy game. Les Davies had a shot kicked off the line by Dominic Richards and John Disney headed past the post, while at the other end Ryan Wollacott glanced a dangerous header wide from Chris Jones’ free kick delivery. Then in the 20th minute an innocuous ball into the area from Quay’s right flank fell for Williams to notch a messy opener. Town threatened a response when Kostya Georgievsky surged down the right wing but couldn’t quite find Luke Borrelli with his cross. Tom Field sent in a cross that Nathan Woolfe headed wide for the Nomads and then Kurtis March’s through ball just evaded Geoff Kellaway. Williams saw a back post header bounce off the crossbar but with the hosts restricted to two attempts on target Aber went into the break still in the game at 1-0. All hopes of a comeback evaporated two minutes into the second half when Field’s deep cross was headed home by Davies at the back post for Quay’s second, and the game opened up. Chris Jones flashed a rasping shot past the post for the visitors, then Field went close with a free kick. Town’s Sam Rodon got a header in on goal from Jones’ free kick but John Danby was not greatly worried, before the salfsame Jones gathered the ball in central midfield and again fizzed a shot wide from 25 yards out. Davies found the roof of the net with another header for Quay and then sub Shelton Payne’s first touch provided the best moment of the game as he cut onto his left foot out on the right and curled a pearler past Richards for a third on 68 minutes. Chris Jones brought a save out of Danby with a third long range effort and March sent a free kick over the bar, and at the other end Richards denied Field with a smart stop. Following a break in play brought about by a faulty corner flag Les Davies headed the fourth from a deep free kick on 89 minutes, and a difficult afternoon for Aberystwyth Town ended at 4-0. The Black and Greens will not have much time to lick their wounds with an away Dafabet Welsh Premier League match at Carmarthen Town on Tuesday evening (ko 7.45pm). Please note that there is no Supporters Coach running to the game.
