Carmarthen Town v Aberystwyth Town
Aberystwyth Town face two games in three days hoping that history will repeat itself. Last Season a disappointing start to 2015/6 was overcome with a 3-0 win at Carmarthen in mid September which spurred the team on to an Autumn recovery which included a 2-1 win at Gap Connah's Quay.
Repeating those results presents Town Manager Matthew Bishop with an enormous challenge coming off the back of three consecutive Dafabet WPL defeats. His side need to rediscover the confidence created by two away wins in a week at Airbus and Llandudno a mere three weeks ago. Bishop told atfc.org.uk this week: "The players are hurting and they want to put things right. We have got a good group of players that I believe in, and they are good enough.”
This year's topsy turvey WPL is a hard one to call but few pundits exclude Gap Connah's Quay from their tips for a podium finish. The appointment of Andy Morrison as Manager following that defeat to Aber at the Deesdide Stadium has been the catalyst to a turnaound in fortunes which lead the Club to the UEFA Europa League this summer. Bishop said: "They’ve got threats all over, and they are solid too. They are are one of the title contenders, so it is going to be difficult, and it’s another away match. We have got to crack on, and see if we can get something from it.”
Carmarthen meanwhile showed what they are capable of last Saturday at Newtown and with onetime Town Striker Mark Jones in imperious form a win at the Waundew will be no mean feat.
However Aber's Players have a point to prove and history shows that one or two good results away from home can make a major difference to a Club's run of form. The Supporters Coach to Connah's Quay leaves Park Avenue at 10.45am on Sunday, with a return trip costing just £10. Keep the Faith, and see you there.
