Club infrastructures

Aberystwyth Towns Media Officer Thomas White believes more could be done to help build infrastructures at Welsh Premier Clubs.

Tom explained that the work load on Matchday’s in particular that despite it increasing the responsibilities are narrowing down to fewer and fewer people

“ Aberystwyth Town is lucky we have our own match day committee setup with some fantastic volunteers who would run through a brick wall for the club collating programmes, selling programmes, golden goals, assisting the spectators on the day, cleaning the changing rooms, and being there to allow Park Avenue to run as smooth as possible on match days.”

"However despite the goodwill of these hardworking, loyal supporters who deserve great credit it is simply not sustainable long term as we are struggling to attract new volunteers with the main reason being that people are tied down to other commitments and having seen some of the new UEFA Licensing requirements which clubs have to meet some of which to me looks like a part time in itself if notfull time jobs."

"It is frustrating when I get enquiries from the local public orstudents at the university looking for work who are keen on the club and am sure could offer a great deal to Aberystwyth Town and the WPL in general but as a club the money isn’t there to offer them a wage and if they get offered alternative employment from supermarkets, local pubs or decide to spend their free Friday nights or Saturday afternoons shopping or in the pub who could blame them”.

"I appreciate the majority of clubs are trying to save money by using volunteers or don’t have the money to spend to employ match day staff so maybe its something the Welsh Assembly/ FAW could look into funding if only for a period of time to allow clubs to be more sustainable off the field especially if these non playing staff were employed in revenue making roles to boost the clubs profile and income such as commercial/community projects workers."
