Aberystwyth Town Women are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Mia Gleave, who joins the Club from North Wales side Llangefni Town.
Gleave recently played at Park Avenue for Bangor University, as they faced Aberystwyth University in the women’s football Varsity event back in March. She made seven league appearances for Llangefni last season, whilst also helping them to victory in the Betty Pickering Cup. The former Nantwich Town youngster adds to Chris Church’s goalkeeping ranks for the 2024/25 season. Gleave said: “It feels fantastic. I’m so grateful to Chris and all of the team for putting their confidence in me.” Having developed a lot during her time with Llangefni, Gleave spoke about her time in North Wales. “Everyone at Llangefni has been absolutely amazing with me,” she began. “I’ve come leaps and bounds since my first game back into league football. I’ve really developed over the past season, more than I would have expected to and that’s all thanks to them. We had a fantastic season and I wouldn’t change it for anything, especially with the Betty Pickering Cup at the end. I just can’t wait to get started here and use that momentum.” First Team Manager Chris Church said: "Mia has settled in really well since joining, she has really impressed since the start and has grown in confidence each session. "She will bring good composure and presence to the squad." Pre Season Friendly/Gem Gyfeillgar

Mae CPD Tref Aberystwyth yn falch o gyhoeddi trosgwlyddiad y golwr ifanc Seb Osment o glwb Alvechurch.
Aberystwyth Town FC are pleased to announce the arrival of young goalkeeper Seb Osment from Alvechurch. Twenty year old Seb was born in Shrewsbury and like Devon Torry hails from the borderlands of Llanymynech in Powys. In his youth he played for a number of youth sides including Newtown, Welshpool and Guilsfield before trying his luck over the border with Hereford FC, Wolverhampton Casuals and then Alvechurch. He has been training with Aber throughout pre season and gave a competent performance in the second half of the Radcliffe friendly, also appearing in the matches against Llanelli and Briton Ferry. Manager Anthony Williams said: “I have kept track on Seb for the last two years and he has been with us previously for training sessions. He’s developed loads over the last 24 months and has shown this. He’s been training full time with Salford and is a confident lad who will push for the number one jersey, and it’ll be really competitive this season. It’s great to get two really strong keepers in the building, and having players fighting for positions is something we need to move on to the next level. Having players playing at high intensity and not resting on their laurels is important, so it’s great to get Seb on board and it’ll be interesting to see how he does this season.” Seb told atfc.org.uk: “I’m really excited to be here, Aber has been a huge club ever since I was little and hopefully this year me and the boys can push the Club back to where they should be. We’ll have our own objectives and as a team we will give everything we can week in week out to achieve them. We’ll be hard to beat at home and looking to make Park Avenue somewhat of a fortress.” Buddugoliaeth i Godi'r Calon/Morale Boosting Win: Tref Aberystwyth Town 2 Briton Ferry Llansawel 117/7/2024

Mawrth/Tuesday 16 Gorffenaf/July Tref Aberystwyth Town 2 Briton Ferry Llansawel 1 Enillodd Tref Aber eu gem gyfeillgar gyntaf o’r tymor neithiwr gyda buddugoliaeth yn erbyn Briton Ferry Llansawel, diolch i goliau Treialydd A ar ol 71 a 72 munud. Sgoriodd Jasper Payne i Lansawel gyda 12 munud yn weddill ond daliodd y Gwyrdd a’r Duon ymlaen i headdu buddugoliaeth sydd yn codi’r calon. Aber Town earned their first win of pre season last night with a home victory against Briton Ferry Llansawel, thanks to goals from Trialist A after 71 and 72 minutes. Jasper Payne responded for Ferry on 78 minutes but the Black and Greens held on for a morale boosting win. Aber started with two trialists in their starting eleven, and another two on the bench, and began with plenty of attacking intent, pressing their opponents from the off and creating chances. Iwan Lewis fired just wide, Niall Flint had a shot saved from a promising position, Johnny Evans had an effort off target and Lewis again went close from the right wing soon afterwards with the hosts looking good. Ferry however showed why they were Cymru South Champions last season: dangerous left winger Corey Hurford tested Dave Jones’ palms with a volley, then fired just over the bar soon afterwards. Jasper Payne missed the target for Ferry, then Tom Walters lobbed a ball into Jones’ hands from a good position. A really entertaining game continued with Liam Walsh shooting wide from Alex Pennock’s clearance, Payne testing Jones at the other end, and Evans almost picking out Flint for Aber, only to be denied by a good defensive challenge, and somehow the half ended goalless! Into the second half and onetime Black and Greener Tom Price sent in a free kick which was headed against the post to safety, only for Louis Bradford to head wide from Flint’s corner. A few half chances followed with sub Devon Torry prominent, and he made his mark in the 71st minute with a brilliant jinky run through the middle, before feeding Trialist A, who scored from the left channel with a neat finish. Sixty seconds later a long ball from the back found the self same Trialist A, who gathered the ball, found space and slid the ball under Pennock for 2-0, and a big morale boost for the Black and Greens. More subs were made and Aber’s goalkeeper Trialist D did really well to parry Ricky Owen’s shot onto the post soon after he came on. Sub John Owen went close from Flint’s free kick and Steff Davies had a header cleared off the line, however with twelve minutes to go the ball dropped nicely for Payne on the edge of the area and he found the bottom corner for two one. In truth Ferry bossed the last remnants of the game with Aber defending solidly, Iestyn Duggan came on for a cameo run up front and the Black and Greens saw the game out for the win. Results matter in football, notwithstanding the fact that this was a friendly and manager Anthony Williams will have been heartened by an improved performance from the weekend, and one in which a number of trialists also impressed. Aber venture to the Forest of Dean for their final pre season friendly of 2024 on Saturday with a match at Southern League outfit Cinderford Town, with an earlier kick off of 1pm. Off we go! Mawrth/Tuesday 16th July (CG/KO 7.30yh/pm) Tref Aberystwyth Town v Briton Ferry Llansawel Bydd Tref Aber yn gwynebu bechgyn newydd y Cymru Prem Briton Ferry Llansawel yng ngem gyfeillgar heno yn Stadiwm Prifysgol Aberystwyth. Aberystwyth Town face the new boys of the Cymru Premier, Briton Ferry Llansawl in tonight’s pre-season friendly at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue. Briton Ferry Llansawel are due to start next season in the top flight after winning the JD Cymru South last time around; finishing 7 points ahead of Saturday’s opposition Llanelli Town, who proved to be a good test for Anthony Williams’ men and left Ceredigion with a 1-0 victory. Formed in 2009 through the amalgamation of Briton Ferry Athletic and Llansawel FC, this will be the merged clubs first season in the Cymru Premier. However, Briton Ferry Athletic were founder members of the League of Wales in 1992 and spent a total of four seasons in the top tier, over two spells. There will be some familiar faces in the opposition line up; none more so than former Aber fan favourite Luke Bowen. Signed in 2009, Luke spent a year at Park Avenue and finished the season as top scorer as the Black and Greens narrowly missed out on a European place. Goalkeeper Alex Pennock came through the ranks at Park Avenue making a number of first team appearances, whilst BFL Assistant Manager Chris Llewellyn had a brief spell in Black and Green in 2012. This will be the third home pre-season friendly in a row, but this will be followed by a trip to Southern League outfit Cinderford Town on Saturday as Anthony Williams’ finalises his squad ahead of the first league match on 9th August. Season ticket will be on sale at the ground on Saturday at the bargain price of £80 for Adults and £50 for Over 65s. Admission prices for tonight’s friendly at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue will be £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, and £1 for Secondary School Age kids. Preparation for the 2024/25 season continues. |
