Cwpan Cymru JD Welsh Cup Sadwrn/Saturday 19 Hydref/October (CC/KO 2yh/pm) Tref Aberystwyth Town v Rhydaman/Ammanford Yn dilyn buddugoliaeth ysgubol nos Fawrth o 4-1 yng Nghaernarfon mae Tref Aber yn cychwyn eu taith yng Nghwpan JD Cymru 2024/25 brynhawn Sadwrn wrth groesawi Rhydaman o Gynghrair JD Cymru'r De. Following Tuesday’s excellent 4-1 victory at Caernarfon Town, Aber Town start their 2024/25 FAW Welsh Cup journey this Saturday with the visit of Ammanford from the JD Cymru South. The Black and Greens, currently led by Interim Manager Dave Taylor, can rightly be proud of their performance on Tuesday night, which led to the team’s biggest win since a 7-1 victory at Airbus in February 2023. They will be hoping that it can be a catalyst for a push up the JD Cymru Premier table, but in the meantime, attention turns to the cup.
This competition has created many special memories for Aber fans over the years. 15 years ago, a Freddie Thomas header in the Semi-Final secured Aber’s first appearance in the Welsh Cup Final in over 100 years. 10 years ago, the Black & Greens led 2-0 in the Final before eventually succumbing to a TNS side who completed the League & Cup double that season. A more recent Welsh Cup memory is the Declan Walker inspired Semi-Final win over Newtown at Bala in 2018, which set up a third final in less than a decade. As another Welsh Cup campaign kicks off, the hope is that the Seasiders can provide more memories and perhaps even go one better and lift the trophy this time around! Ammanford will certainly provide a tough test for the Black & Greens, however. The JD Cymru South side have won three out of their last five matches and have climbed into a mid-table position after a slow start. They also come into this game with a week’s rest under their belt, having last played last Friday when they beat Goytre United 3-1 at home. Former Port Talbot and Pontardawe Town man Lewis Reed is the visitor’s top scorer so far this season, with 5 goals, whilst Adam John and Callum Thomas have netted three goals each. There will be a familiar face in the opposition dugout, as Ammanford are led by former Seasider Wyn Thomas. Wyn had two spells at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue as a player, later becoming Assistant Manager under Ian Hughes and then also serving as Interim Manager back in 2016. He became Ammanford Manager this summer after the departure of Gruff Harrison and will be assured of a warm welcome back in Ceredigion! PLEASE NOTE THAT KICK-OFF IS AT THE EARLIER TIME OF 2pm and before the match we will be holding a minutes applause in memory of John Sambrook and Carwyn Daniel. John was a loyal supporter and onetime Club Bus driver, while Carwyn was an extremely loyal supporter and was also a member of the Aber Stars Disability Team. They will be sorely missed by everyone at Aberystwyth Town Football Club. Matchday tickets are available by cash or card at the turnstiles. Admission prices at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue for 2024/5 are set at £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, £2 for Secondary School age kids, and Primary School and younger are free. This seasons Welsh Cup journey starts here! Comments are closed.
