JD Cymru Premier football returns to Ceredigion this Friday evening, as Aber Town host Connahs Quay Nomads at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue. The Seasiders will be hoping to build on last week’s positive first half performance as they go in search of their first points of this campaign and they face a tough test about European entrants Connahs Quay Nomads, who finished as Runners Up in last season’s table.
The Nomads have had an eventful start to 2024/25. They were knocked out of the UEFA Conference League by Slovenian outfit NK Bravo, despite winning the away leg 1-0. They then advanced in the Nathaniel MG Cup by beating Buckley 3-0 but lost their first league game on Sunday to Haverfordwest County by a single goal. Since Sunday’s match, Nomads have announced the surprising news of the departure of their Manager, Neil Gibson. Gibson had been with the club for 2 years and can count the 2024 Welsh Cup amongst his achievements. At the time of writing, no successor or interim appointment has been announced. There was also plenty of movement during the summer, with Michael Wilde, Andy Firth, Harry Owen, Jordan Davies and Josh Williams all departing. Former Seasider Harry Franklin has also moved onto pastures new with Crusaders of Northern Ireland and everyone at Park Avenue wishes him well in his new adventure. New arrivals include goalkeeper George Ratcliffe from Pontypridd Utd and former The New Saints Captain, Chris Marriott, who will bring plenty of experience to the side having won the Cymru Premier on multiple occasions with his former club. In this fixture last season, an first half injury time goal from John Owen cancelled out Jordan Davies opener for the visitors, as the Seasiders claimed a point in a hard fought draw. Nomads had the better of the away game, winning 4-0 at the Essity Stadium, but they have found it tough going in Ceredigion in recent years, not winning at Park Avenue since 2021 – a run that those of a Black and Green persuasion will hope will continue this Friday! If it is your first visit to Park Avenue please check out our brand new Supporters Guide here. Matchday tickets are available by cash or card at the turnstiles. Admission prices at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue for 2024/5 are set at £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, £2 for Secondary School age kids, and Primary School and younger are free.
