Friday 20th September
Aberystwyth Town v Caernarfon Town (ko 7.45pm)
Aberystwyth Town are hoping for another fab Friday in 48 hours as last season’s fourth place finishers Caernarfon Town visit Park Avenue for a JD Cymru Premier match under the lights.
Both of Aber’s League victories this season have come on a Friday, at home to Carmarthen on opening night, and away to Cefn Druids three weeks ago, and after two setbacks in a row at home to Airbus and away to Connah’s Quay, Black and Green supporters are desperate for an upturn in fortunes.
Despite four defeats from six games Aber are, surprisingly, the League’s third top scorers and strikers Luke Boundford and Marc Williams in particular have been in excellent form. Town’s defence now need to step up to the plate and if/when that happens the Black and Greens can be confident of a positive season ahead.
With Caernarfon three points ahead of Aber in sixth place this looks like a game Town need to win if they are to maintain contact with the Top Six. Last season a win for the Cofis over Aber brought them right back into the running – eventually leading to a fourth placed finish, so Aber can take inspiration from their visitors.
The Cofis have so far beaten Airbus and Penybont, and drawn with Connah’s Quay, Cefn Druids and Barry Town. With ex Black and Green Players Darren Thomas and Jamie Crowther already amongst the goals they will pose a big threat to Aber’s hopes on Friday night. But the Black and Greens can do it! Last season’s match between the two sides at Park Avenue ended in a stormy stalemate and a 0-0 draw. It was an excellent match nevertheless and supporters will be hoping for a thriller again in two days time.
Aber Town extend a warm welcome to Aberystwyth University students who have recently moved or returned to the Town for Friday night’s match. Admission for this JD Cymru Premier clash will cost £7 for Adults, £4 for Concessions and just £1 for Kids. Get that Friday feeling at Park Avenue!
