Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Friday 8th April (ko 7.45pm)
Aberystwyth Town v Haverfordwest County
Aber Town look to maintain their excellent recent form on Friday night to keep pace with Bangor City and Carmarthen Town at the top of the Dafabet WPL Play Off Conference. Since Town earned a comfortable 3-1 victory over Rhyl two weeks ago both their Play Off rivals have caught and passed the Black and Greens with victories over the Pembrokeshire Bluebirds over the past five days, so Wyn Thomas' men need to equal Bangor and Carmarthen's victories to regain seventh place on 43 points, for 24 hours at least.
The Black and Green Boys have earned a right to be confident over the past seven games, winning four and drawing two of their matches since the split, including a 3-1 win away to Haverfordwest in February. Chris Venables has rediscovered his scoring boots, standing a single goal shy of the WPL's Golden Boot award, and with Rhys Griffiths and Craig Williams in imperious form last time round, goals are likely. Jonathan Evans, having lost his First Team Place, rejoined Penrhyncoch last week but Town are otherwise at full strength ahead of Friday's game and things are looking very positive.
Overconfidence will not be a problem however, as Friday's visitors have already beaten Aber three times this season, in a Pre Season Friendly, a Word Cup tie and on New Year's Day, when Haverfordwest gave their best performance of the season to thoroughly deserve a 2-1 win at Park Avenue thanks to a brilliant last minute free kick from Luke Borelli. That was County's last Dafabet WPL win, and their relegation was confirmed with Saturday's 5-2 defeat at Bangor.
The scene is set then for Aberystwyth Town to once again prove their UEFA Europa League Play Off credentials. There is only one way to find out if they can, and that's to join us all at Park Avenue on Friday for the 7.45pm kick off. Admission will cost £6 for Adults, £4 Concessions and £1 for Children.
Please note that the match will be preceded by a Club Photo at 6pm, with all affiliated teams invited to attend.
