Aber Town Under 19s 1 Cardiff Met 4

21/3/2017

Welsh Premier Development League
Saturday March 19th

Aberystwyth Town U19s 1 Cardiff Met U19s 4

Aberystwyth’s development side looked to follow up their 3-2 victory away at Risca with another win against Cardiff Met at Park Avenue, writes Gwion Dafydd.

The first clear opportunity came midway through the first half when Jack Rimmer’s pass in behind the defence found Harri Horwood who played the ball passed the onrushing goalkeeper but was brought down on the edge of the area, with an open goal in front of him, resulting in a booking for the keeper. It was the visitors who took the lead in the 36th minute when striker Rhys Thomas stepped up to slot a penalty past Oliver Farebrother. Aber responded immediately and scored the equalizer after good pressing forced the keeper into a mistake, and Horwood was on hand to tap the ball into the empty net. However, the home side were unable to keep the score level before half time when possession was lost in midfield, and Cardiff Met broke quickly and Rees finished off a good counter attack.

Aber were unable to find the same energy in the second half and Cardiff Met’s fitness showed as they continued to capitalise on mistakes made by the home side.  The Met’s third goal came early in the second half as the ball was won well by Thomas who moved the ball on to Luke Boyle, and his effort found the back of the net despite Farebrother getting fingertips to it. Aber kept pushing for a second goal and almost got one, but Siôn Ewart’s header hit the crossbar. Davies scored Cardiff Met’s fourth and final goal when he found himself one on one against Farebrother and chipped the ball into the net.

Aber Town lined up as follows: Oliver Farebrother, Tomos Evans, Tega Emeseh, Daniel Hopton, Carwyn Morgan,
Siôn Ewart, Harri Horwood, Alex Davies, Jack Rimmer, Guto Havard, Liam Doherty. Subs Ifan Rees, Ryan Evans and Josh Crowl.

Aber travel to Carmarthen on Wednesday night to play their final league cup group stage game, before hosting Haverfordwest in the league on Sunday.
