Aberystwyth Town v Cardiff Met
Aberystwyth Town look to build on a much stronger defensive showing over the past three matches as they strive for a positive result at home to UEFA Europa League qualifiers Cardiff Met on Saturday afternoon (ko 2.30pm).
A mere three goals conceded in three away games is a huge improvement for the Black and Greens and these strong defensive showings earned Aber a win at Cardiff Met and a draw at Penybont, either side of a two goal defeat at Bala. Despite Penybont's last gasp equaliser, Assistant Manager Gavin Allen praised his side last Friday, telling Aber Town's Youtube Channel "they worked their socks off, and were unlucky not to come away with three points". The JD Cymru Premier official stats, published yesterday here back up Allen's assertion.
Young Lee Jenkins made more tackles (7) than any other player in the Cymru Premier last weekend, with Matthew Jones ranked second with 6 tackles. Jenkins also came second in the League's interceptions list (with 15), and midfield lynchpin Paolo Mendes also topped the League's ball recoveries chart, with 15. If Aber can marry this crowd pleasing defensive determination to the attacking flair they have displayed in scoring 17 times in their opening 11 matches so far, then their season will be looking a lot more positive in a few weeks time.
They of course face tough opposition on Saturday, and a side containing a host of ex Black and Greens such as Manager Christian Edwards, defenders Emlyn Lewis and Dylan Rees, and young winger Dion Phillips from Newcastle Emlyn. Met have had a very respectable start to 2019/20 and are comfortable in 6th place after 8 games. Mathew Bishop's men did however inflict Met's first home defeat since November 2018 sixteen days ago in the MG Nathaniel Cup Third Round, so they can be confident going into Saturday's game.
Admission for this JD Cymru Premier clash will cost £7 for Adults, £4 for Concessions and just £1 for Kids. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
