JD Cymru Premier
Aberystwyth Town v Penybont
Aberystwyth Town look to extend the Feelgood Factor they created up at Caernarfon last Friday night as they welcome Penybont FC to Park Avenue on Matchday 22 of the JD Cymru League’s 2019/20 season, for a Saturday tea time kick off.
This will be the final match of the first phase of games, and with Aber sitting on twenty points in ninth place, they already know that the Bottom Six, or Play Off Conference, is their destiny. The Black and Greens sit eight point clear of relegation, and eight points behind Cardiff Met who currently occupy the UEFA Europa League Play Off Spot of seventh, so a win on Saturday evening will have the Seasiders looking upwards as Phase II gets underway in three weeks’ time.
Mathew Bishop’s Players did magnificently last Friday night in a blowing gale to deny Caernarfon Town direct qualification to the Top Half with a 3-0 victory. Midfield Maestro Paulo Mendes got three assists, and Captain Fantastic Marc Williams notched 2 goals, with his first effort amended to an own goal after the game. Aber’s new signings Ilan Hughes, Pavel Vieira and David Thompson all did well too, not the Black and Greens’ magnificent supporters who sang and disco danced all night behind Caernarfon's goal. Their support will be so important for the remainder of the season as Aber aim to climb up the table and get involved in the race for seventh place.
Visitors Penybont are making a good fist of it in their first season in the Cymru Premier, and are currently a few points clear of the relegation zone in tenth. Their Manager Rhys Griffiths of course spent a season up front at Park Avenue, and he has done a great job to ensure his side show the resilience to remain in close games, giving them the chance to earn valuable "bonus" points, as they did through another ex Seasider, Kostya Geogievsky in Aber’s 1-1 draw down in Bridgend back in October. Penybont also got a great win up at Druids last weekend and will also be eagerly anticipating Saturday’s game.
Admission for this JD Cymru Premier clash will cost £7 for Adults, £4 for Concessions and just £1 for Kids. Join the Black and Green Bandwaggon to see if they can remain unbeaten in the 2020s! Kick off is at 5.15pm.
