Dafabet Welsh Premier League Play Off Conference Sunday 9th April (ko 4.15pm) Llandudno v Aberystwyth Town After a fifteen day break from action Aberystwyth Town will be raring to go at Llandudno for Sunday's televised Dafabet WPL match, and will be looking to repeat the excellent performance they gave at home to Cefn Druids a week last Saturday. A goalless draw was scant reward for a superb defensive performance and an attacking show which looked sure to garner three points for the Black and Greens. A similar performance on Sunday will surely not go unrewarded. Of course two weeks is a long time in football and there have been changes to Aber's Football Management Staff in the interim period. Ex Premier League Coach Tony Pennock has been drafted in as Assistant Manager and will be in the dug out for the first time on Sunday. He will meet his new Squad on Saturday evening as the Team are staying up in North Wales prior to the game to reduce the negative impact of a long journey to Llandudno. Alan Morgan's men will be tough opponents to Aber having snatched a 4-3 win at Park Avenue from 3-1 down back in February. However Aber beat Llandudno up at Maesdu back in August with Jonathan Evans' dramatic 93rd minute winner, and the two sides played out an engaging 0-0 draw in October too, so a close and intriguing game is likely. Talismanic Town striker Jon Owen joined Aber from Llandudno in January, while Tudno's Manager Alan Morgan, keeper Dave Roberts and forward Jamie Reed have all represented the Ceredigion Club also, which adds to the spice. Unfortunately on this occasion the Club is not able to put on a Supporters Coach but a good following is certain to support the Black and Greens on Sunday afternoon, and the kick off at Maesdu Park is at 4.15pm. For those unable to travel the game will be shown live in the John Charles Lounge from 4pm: and the bar will be open. Find a way to support Aber Town on Sunday, however you can. Three games left: you'll miss your footy when it's gone! Aberystwyth Town have bolstered their Football Management Team with the appointment of Tony Pennock as Assistant Manager with immediate effect. The Club were informed on Wednesday afternoon that Wayne Jones' qualification as an A Licence candidate had expired and acted quickly to enlist Tony, whose Pro Licence qualification ensures that the Black and Greens conform with FAW Licensing criteria, and whose recent experience as First Team Coach for Premier League Club Hull City makes him a stand out appointment. Since retiring from a distinguished goalkeeping career Tony has a wealth of football experience most recently as First Team Coach for Premier League Hull City, a post he held until January 2017. He had previously managed their Football Academy, worked with Swansea City and has also managed Port Talbot Town and the Wales Semi Pro side back in 2007. Everyone at Aberystwyth Town welcomes Tony to the Club and looks forward to his debut in the Technical Area at Llandudno on Sunday. Aberystwyth Town FC are delighted to confirm that the FAW's First Instance Body has awarded the Club the UEFA and Domestic Licences required to compete in the UEFA Europa and Dafabet Welsh Premier Leagues for 2017/8. Club Licensing Officer Thomas Crockett said: "These licences are a great achievement for any volunteer-run Football Club, and they accredit the thousands of hours of unpaid work put into administering our Club each year." "I'd like to place on record my thanks to a few people who once again have put in a lot of the behind the scenes work necessary to achieve these licences, namely Club Chairman Tony Bates, Vice Chairman David "Dai Caprice" Evans, Academy Secretary Russell Hughes-Pickering and Doctor Richard Edwards." The Club therefore retains its unique and proud record of achieving both licences at the first attempt on every single occasion since the FAW introduced the Licensing process in 2004/5. |
