Geoff and Jack Stay Green and Black

30/6/2016

Picture
Aberystwyth Town FC are delighted to confirm that Geoff Kellaway and Jack Rimmer will remain at Park Avenue for the forthcoming season.

Flying winger Kellaway was again a key player for Aber last year, excelling in a vital game at home to Bangor City back in December when his thrilling pace turned the game in the Black and Greens favour and helped them to a 4-0 win. Highly rated Rimmer, who tuned 17 in March, made his debut in front of the TV Cameras at Llandudno last August, going on to make nine Dafabet WPL appearances, and scoring an amazing match winning goal from the right hand touchline at Haverfordwest on Boxing Day.

Fans favourite Kellaway, whose blistering pace strikes fear into hearts of opposing Managers and defenders throughout the WPL, was named on the bench in the 2014/5 Team of the Season, and won the prestigious Aberystwyth Town First Team Supporters Player of the Season at the Club Dinner in June 2015. Geoff began his career with Aberystwyth Town, making his debut during the 2003/04 season. He went on to make 141 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals, and featured in the 2009 Welsh Cup final defeat to Bangor City. In May 2010, having been named in the 2009/10 Welsh Premier League team of the season, Kellaway joined Dandenong Thunder along with fellow Welsh Premier players Luke Sherbon and Jamie Reed. In August 2010, he was signed to a three month injury replacement contract with A-League side Melbourne Victory. He made his debut for the club as a substitute during a 2-2 draw with North Queensland Fury, becoming the 500th player to make an appearance in the A-League. He was released by the Victory and returned to Britain at the end of the 2010/11 season. In July 2011, he re-joined Aberystwyth Town and after one more season at Park Avenue, in June 2012 he moved to Llanelli, where he made his debut in the Europa League versus Kups in Finland. Geoff then moved to Carmarthen Town in January 2013 before returning to Park Avenue the following summer, where he has remained since, playing in the Welsh Cup Final of 2013/4, and the UEFA Europa League and Europa League Play Off Final in 2014/5. Since making his debut for the Black and Greens in 2003/4 Geoff has played 223 WPL games for Aberystwyth Town, scoring 55 goals, and he passed the 250 game milestone overall as Aber beat Bangor in April 2016.

Academy Product Jack Rimmer joined the First Team Squad for 2015/16. Jack is a Sixth Former at Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig and has an impeccable sporting background, having been invited to join Liverpool's Academy at age 10, Birmingham City's Academy at 11, and having trials at Stoke City at 14. He started playing for Padarn United before joining the very successful Aber United team, winning the Ian Rush Super Cup Under 11 age group in 2009, and finishing as runners up in 2010. Jack represented Central Wales in the Cymru Cup of 2013 and the Welsh National/Regional Development Squads in 2012 and 2013. He has also played for Penweddig and Ceredigion Schools throughout his School Years, and played for Central Wales Boys 2014 and again in 2015 where Jack captained the side. Jack, a Centre Back or Midfielder by trade, has been with Bow Street since 2011 but importantly has also been part of Aberystwyth Town's Academy sides from the Under 12 Age Group onwards and was in the side that reached the Welsh Final in 2012. He is also an accomplished golfer, as part of the Dyfed team that won Welsh schools championship 2014, and has represented Ceredigion Schools Athletics Squads several times in the 100m and 400m sprints. He has made one WPL start and 8 sub appearances, scoring once to date.

With Chris Venables and Luke Sherbon remaining on contract, four players arriving from Haverfordwest County this week and more signings likely to be announced over the weekend, Matthew Bishop's new look squad is starting to take shape ahead of their return to training on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile the Club can confirm the departure of midfielder and First Team Coach Antonio Corbisiero, who leaves the Club after 3 1/2 years service. He represented the Club in the 2014 Welsh Cup Final and UEFA Europa League, and was part of the side which finished fourth in 2014/5. Overall Antonio made 92 WPL appearances for the Black and Greens, scoring once, contributing to an overall WPL total of 308 games and 16 goals. The Club thanks him for his excellent service and wishes him all the best for the future.

Black and Greens Bid Farewell to Green Legend Sion James

29/6/2016

Picture
Atfc.org.uk can confirm the departure of Club Legend Sion James after 356 WPL appearances, and 3 goals over the past 12 seasons.

Penrhyncoch born and bred, Sion was the longest serving player at the club, and has been an integral part of the First Team Squad over a decade. He began his career at Aberystwyth in 2000, then spent time at Carmarthen Town, Barry Town and Penrhyncoch before returning to Park Avenue in 2004 to cement his place in the first team. He has gone on to play at least 25 games each season since then.

Hugely popular with the Green Army fan base after twelve years' loyal service to the Club, Sion James was almost an ever present last season, and scored his last goal for Town with a vital headed winner against Newtown in Aber's first ever Top Six game in January 2015.

Happy to play where needed, Sion has covered a variety of positions across the back and midfield, but has made most of his starts as a centre back. Sion won Supporters and Players Player of the Year in season 2009/10, and ends his WPL Career on 356 Appearances (all but 4 for the Black and Greens), and 3 goals.

Picture
Sion represented the Club in the 2014 UEFA Europa League, in two Welsh Cup Finals (2009 and 2014)  - but his favourite moment was surely scoring a back post header against his beloved Liverpool in a pre season friendly in 2009 (please see photo, right).

Sion announced his departure via twitter last night, saying "After 12 amazing years @AberystwythTown I've decided to move on. Thank you to players, staff and fans for everything. Emotional but so proud."

Town Manager Matthew Bishop said: "Sion deserves a massive amount of credit for his long service to the Club."

Everyone at Aberystwyth Town FC would like to join its supporters in thanking Sion for the dedication and professionalism he has displayed giving tremendous service to the Club over the past 12 seasons, and wish him the best of luck in his future career.

Pob hwyl Sion - cei di groeso twymgalon nol i'r Clwb unrhyw bryd.

Town Sign Two More ex-Bluebirds

28/6/2016

Picture
Following the recent news that Aber have completed the signings of Luke Borelli and Sam Rodon, Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce that they will be joined at Park Avenue by two of their Haverfordwest County teammates in the form of Greg Walters and Ricky Watts for the forthcoming 16/17 campaign.

Both players played an integral role in Haverfordwest County’s Division One championship winning season and grew their reputations during the Bluebirds’ term in the Welsh Premier League.

At just 21 years old, Walters joins Aber with a glowing reputation. With a number of eye-catching performances under his belt from midfield, the Welsh under 18 international will be looking forward to plying his trade on Aber’s brand new 3g pitch. His tenacity, determination and confidence on the ball made him one of Haverfordwest’s stand out stars last term around and the Black and Greens will be hoping he can recreate that form this time around.

Picture
Joining Walters will be full back Ricky Watts. Making his debut at age 17 in the Welsh Premier League, Watts was capped for Wales schools under 18’s in 2010. Now aged 24, during the previous seven seasons, Watts has amassed a wealth of experience which will be an invaluable asset to the Aber back line.

We’d like to offer Sam and Ricky our best wishes ahead of the new season. More signings are imminent and will be revealed on atfc.org.uk in the coming days, ahead of the team's return to training this coming Saturday.

Aber announce Double Signing!

27/6/2016

Picture
Aberystwyth Town are happy to announce the completed signings of former Haverfordwest County duo Luke Borelli and Sam Rodon. The double signing marks Aberystwyth’s first new additions to the playing squad with further announcements expected in the forthcoming days.

Borelli’s determination to succeed coupled with his lauded finishing skills sees Aberystwyth’s attacking arsenal significantly boosted following a number of attacking departures. The former Bluebird arrives at Parc Avenue with a sterling reputation. Of course, he will be familiar to the Green Army having found the net three times against the Seasiders in an impressive campaign last time around. Having begun his career at Afan Lido, the 25 year old has played at Welsh Premier League level for both Haverfordwest County and Port Talbot Town.

Picture
Rodon's addition sees the Black and Green’s defensive ranks bolstered. A popular player with both supporters and players alike at Haverfordwest, the 23 year old spent seven years with the Swansea City academy whilst representing his country in a school’s tournament and captaining a colleges side. The centre back will be a big presence for Town over the coming season.

Wayne Jones told atfc.org.uk, “Both myself and Mathew have been in discussions since we joined the club about personnel to bring to the club. We wanted a young and hungry side that will be competitive and these two fit that billing.”

All at Aberystwyth Town would like to welcome Luke and Sam to the club and wish them long and prosperous careers at Park Avenue.

Cledan Joins Again

23/6/2016

Picture
Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce that Cledan Davies has re-signed for the Black and Green’s for the forthcoming season.

The popular Tregaron based player is at home in both defence and midfield which offers Mathew Bishop and Wayne Jones the options of mixing things up during the games. Having originally signed for Aberystwyth in 2009, Davies moved onto Carmarthen for the 2011/12 campaign but returned home after only a season away.

Following the return, Cledan dazzled the crowds at Parc Avenue on the way to winning the Supporters Player of the Year in 2013. The following year saw Cledan play an integral role in the side that reached the Welsh Cup final and subsequently qualifying for the Europa League.

This season marks Cledan’s fifth in Black and Green which has seen him amass nearly 200 in the Welsh Premier League.

Assistant Manager Wayne Jones told atfc.org.uk, “We’re delighted to have someone of Cledan’s ability on board especially when you consider he’s a local lad. Both Mathew and I are working hard with the academy right now from under 8’s right through to get a feeling of unity in the camp so that we can create a pool of talent. Hopefully in a few years’ time then, there’ll be a big pool of Ceredigion based players to choose from.”

All at Aberystwyth Town Football Club would like to welcome Cledan back to the club and wish him all the best for the forthcoming season.
