Aberystwyth Town FC Reveal Kit Design for 2017/8

27/6/2017

Aberystwyth Town Football Club can reveal their kit designs for 2017/8, in partnership with Acerbis.

The home kit will remain the same, featuring a Green and White Striped Shirt, White Shorts and Black socks.

An eye catching new away kit has also been designed featuring Orange and White striped shirts, black shorts and orange socks.

Replica Home Shirts remain on sale via the Club's online shop here and we hope to have Away shirts available by September.

Aberystwyth Town FC's official partnership with Acerbis was announced last year. The Italian company was founded in 1973 and added football to its portfolio more than ten years ago, now recognised as a well-established brand across Europe. New for 2016 is the development of a partnership with Aberystwyth Town Football Club, which marks the entrance of the Italian brand into The Dafabet Welsh Premier League.

Aberystwyth Town Football Club is steeped in history, formed in 1884 and joining the Welsh League in 1896. The club has enjoyed many successful seasons over the years and this new partnership reinforces the determination of the club to invest in its future. Aberystwyth has always been a family club and has good connections within the local community, making it an attractive partner for Acerbis as a family run business. Founder Franco Acerbis has built his company on “Soul and Passion” in sport, and has never underestimated the importance of activities like football in bringing people together and in turn building stronger communities.

Geoff Passes Milestone and Commits Again for 2017/18

24/6/2017

Aberystwyth Town is delighted to announce that fan favourite Geoff Kellaway, who played his 250th game for Town at the end of last season, has committed to remain at Park Avenue for the forthcoming season, 2017/18.

Kellaway, whose blistering pace strikes fear into hearts of opposing Managers and defenders throughout the WPL, scored an impressive eight goals from 27 appearances last season including a remarkable hat trick at Carmarthen in September, and his addition to the Squad is a major boost to the Black and Greens hopes for the forthcoming season.

Prior to last season Geoff was a major part of a Black and Greens attack force which notched over 140 goals between 2014-6, and his excellent form of 2014/5 did not go unnoticed. In April Sgorio confirmed that Geoff was joint top of the WPL Assist Table with 12, to add to his 10 Goals from 29 WPL games. His third goal in a hat trick at Bala, an audacious lob from outside the area, was nominated for Goal of the Month for March. Geoff was named on the bench in the WPL Team of the Season, and won the prestigious Aberystwyth Town First Team Supporters' Player of the Season at the Club Dinner in June 2015. Geoff began his career with Aberystwyth Town, making his debut during the 2003/04 season. He went on to make 141 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals, and featured in the 2009 Welsh Cup final defeat to Bangor City.

In May 2010, having been named in the 2009/10 Welsh Premier League team of the season, Kellaway joined Dandenong Thunder along with fellow Welsh Premier players Luke Sherbon and Jamie Reed. In August 2010, he was signed to a three month injury replacement contract with A-League side Melbourne Victory. He made his debut for the club as a substitute during a 2-2 draw with North Queensland Fury, becoming the 500th player to make an appearance in the A-League. He was released by the Victory and returned to Britain at the end of the 2010/11 season. In July 2011, he re-joined Aberystwyth Town and after one more season at Park Avenue, in June 2012 he moved to Llanelli, where he made his debut in the Europa League versus Kups in Finland. Geoff then moved to Carmarthen Town in January 2013 before returning to Park Avenue the following summer, where he has remained since, playing in the Welsh Cup Final of 2014/5, and the UEFA Europa League and Europa League Play Off Final in 2015. Since making his debut for the Black and Greens in 2003/4 Geoff has played 250 WPL games for Aberystwyth Town, scoring 63 goals.

Everyone at Park Avenue congratulates Geoff on reaching 250 games in Black and Green and we all look forward to more exploits in the season to come.

Chris Howells Wins WPL Womens League Photo of the Season

19/6/2017

Picture
Aberystwyth Town would like to Congratulate photographer Chris Howells on winning the 2016-17 Welsh Premier Women’s League Photo of the Season, writes Steven Brookes.

The award was collected by Aber Ladies’ Sian Evans but Chris has since spoken about the photo.

“I remember taking the photo because we were all laughing at Siani, it may sound cruel but she is quite accident prone, but for a few seconds she didn't come back up and then I started to think she was hurt. But of course, Siani is a force of nature.”

“I was shocked when I had the email about the photo, because I had no idea there was even a competition and at that time I didn't even know what photo was up for nomination. I finally saw it on Twitter because Lucy Hughes had kindly shared it with the team to vote on.I was surprised when it won because at least two of the other photos had goal celebrations and usually those are the photos that appeal.”

So, what did Sian think when she first saw the photo?

“I laughed so much and I was glad he caught the moment. When it won I was so glad for Chris because he deserves it! The photo had so much support on Twitter, everybody loved it. It wasn't a huge shock that it won.”

Chris isn’t just the team’s photographer. He is also a huge supporter of the Women’s team and has followed them for many years.

Picture
“Chris is a huge part of Aber Town Ladies, it was a shame too lose him as our secretary but he still supports us as much as he can. Chris's skills with that camera is amazing, it’s so nice to have our memories as a team on paper, the good and the bad” Sian explained. “Thanks for everything Chris, keep the photos coming and I’ll supply the entertainment!”

The team clearly means a lot to Chris and he regularly talks about his admiration for the team.

“Where do I start with Aber Ladies? They have been out there working hard for nearly 2 decades, people don't realise a lot of the team have been playing since they were young girls and I have nothing but admiration for them. They don't dive or playact, just get on with the game and remember they travel from one end of Wales to the other, from Rhyl to Cardiff on a Sunday when most people are having a day off."

I just love their heart, the fact they play for the club, for themselves and for each other, what more can be asked of any team. They were relegated this year, but there is no resignation, no giving up and after being part of the team for over ten years I have absolutely no doubts that they will make it.”

The club would like to thank Chris for all his hard work and his support and we are looking forward to seeing his fantastic photos again next season.

Tony Pennock Returns to Hull City With Club's Blessing

15/6/2017

Picture
First Team Manager Tony Pennock has been released by Aberystwyth Town FC to take up the role of First Team Coach at Hull City.

Club Chairman Donald Kane said: "When Tony was appointed we were aware that this situation might arise and we promised not to stand in his way should it occur. As a Club we have now honoured that promise."

"It is a fantastic opportunity for Tony to Coach at the highest level and we sincerely wish him all the best. He has been thoroughly honest and professional in his dealings with the Club and we are pleased to part on excellent terms."

Picture
nnock took over as Assistant Manager in April 2017 and with Wayne Jones oversaw a dramatic late season upsurge in form as two enormous wins at Llandudno and at home to Rhyl ensured the Black and Greens' WPL Status with a game to spare. He was appointed as First Team Manager last month.

Kane also paid tribute to Hull City for their dealings "We would also like to thank the Board and Staff at Hull City for their professional cooperation in resolving this move swiftly and amicably."

Wayne Jones will be put in charge of First Team affairs until a replacement to Tony Pennock is appointed.

Wollacott: "I'm Looking Forward to Next Season"

13/6/2017

Picture
Young Centre Half Ryan Wollacott, one of last season's success stories, looks forward to 2017/8 in Black and Green.

One of last season's success stories was undoubtedly the performances of 22 year old Centre Back Ryan Wollacott, a virtual unknown in Welsh Football when he was signed by Matthew Bishop from Stourport Swifts last July. Ryan's steady performances at the back quickly earned admiration and Wollacott signed an 18 month Contract extension with the Black and Greens back in January.

"I'm delighted to stay on and of course I'm looking forward to next season," Wollacott told atfc.org.uk this week.

"Overall last season was a poor one but for a lot of lads it was their first season in the League. Having the core of the Squad together will help for next season. We are still getting to know each other and having a weekend away together in July will be good for team bonding."

In a season of flux when no further than 31 players donning the Black and Green shirt between August and April, Ryan was a mainstay with 30 WPL appearances in an impressive debut season: Personally I felt I had a good season, obviously I had a few bad games but overall I was happy with my performances."

Looking forward Wollacott feels the Squad will be strong enough to target a Top Six place in the coming season: "Next season I feel Top Six has to be a realistic aim going forward, and it would be a good achievement for us."

Aber Town's Pre Season preparations begin on July 4th, with their first friendly planned for Saturday 15th July at home to Welsh League Division Two Champions Llanelli.
