Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce the return of academy product, Welsh Premier Development League champion and ex-Welsh Schoolboy international Harri Horwood. The 22-year-old left-sided player returns to Park Avenue after spending the 2021/22 season with Penrhyncoch, with previous spells at Cardiff Met University and Briton Ferry Llansawel.
A pacey and tenacious left-back with experience further forward, Harri progressed through Town’s academy and was an integral part of the Black and Greens’ hugely successful double-winning U19 Development squad of 2017/18 that became the first squad in club history to win a national title. Lead by Town legend Bari Morgan, assistant Iwan Roberts and captained by current Seasider Jack Rimmer, the youngsters beat The New Saints at Latham Park to claim their first of two consecutive titles, before lifting the Central Wales FA Youth Cup two weeks later against Rhayader FC. As well as representing Town’s youth team, Harri featured for Penrhyncoch of the JD Cymru North, further aiding his development and progression to senior football. A regular under Town legend Gari Lewis, Harri’s first spell at Cae Baker was headlined by an away brace vs Ruthin Town, securing The Roosters’ league status in 17/18 despite a travelling squad of just 12 with several starters missing the game. On the international stage, Harri amassed 14 appearances in a Cymru shirt across schoolboys and academy level, including a 0-2 win to retain the John Coughlin Memorial Cup vs the Republic of Ireland, where Harri netted the opening goal at Graun Park - a squad including fellow Seasiders Alex Pennock, Lee Jenkins and Liam Doherty. In 2018, Harri made the move to the capital to study at Cardiff Metropolitan University where he spent a season with Met before joining Briton Ferry Llansawel for the 2019/20 season, playing alongside ex-Seasider and fan favourite Mark Jones before season curtailment in March 2020. Harri joined The Archers for Phase 1 of the 2020/21 season before re-joining the Seasiders in January 2021, however he was limited to just three bench appearances in Phase 2. Harri returned to The Roosters for the 2021/22 season, making 28 total appearances and scoring twice - featuring in all but two games all season as Penrhyn finished in a very respectable 9th place in the JD Cymru North. Harri told us: "Believe it or not, last season was only my first full season of senior football, so I can't thank Fred, Sion and the Penrhyn boys enough. It was by far the most enjoyable and rewarding season I've had in football that made me fall in love with the game again! Taff's a great manager with great ideas. From our time together at Met, it's clear to see he has exciting plans for an attractive style of play that we can't wait to show the fans next season. For me personally, I'm looking to pick up where I left off last season, playing regularly along the left side and contributing to the team where I can. I know this is my third stint at the club but hopefully this time around I can showcase to the fans what I can offer to the squad." First Team Manager Anthony Williams said: "I've known Harri for a number of years from his time at Cardiff Met. He needed time to develop his game through regular senior football, and last year proved that he now has the ability and consistency to perform in the Cymru Premier, so we're delighted to add him to the squad." Croeso adre, H! / Welcome home, H! Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce the signings of 2021/22 JD Cymru North Team of the Season duo Sam Litchfield and Iwan Lewis from Tier 2 side Guilsfield FC. Both 29-years-old, the pair boast a wealth of experience in the Cymru Leagues and now take the opportunity to test themselves in the JD Cymru Premier!
Centre-back Sam joins Town having represented the Guils since 2015, with a short stint at Newtown at the beginning of the 2017/18 season. A leader on and off the pitch, Sam was club-captain at Guilsfield, leading the club to an impressive 3rd place finish last season behind champions Airbus UK and runners-up Llandudno, as well as a Welsh Cup Quarter-Final berth, losing to eventual champions The New Saints. Last season, Sam made 28 appearances across all competitions and found the net on two occasions - and was named in the JD Cymru North Team of the Season through the league's official channels. Sam told us: "I used to play in the Ian Rush tournament as a youth and absolutely loved it, so I'm no stranger to Aberystwyth. However, I've never played at Park Avenue which is something I'm hugely looking forward to. It will be a pleasure to play in front of the vocal fans as I know the club is one of the best supported in the league. I spoke with the gaffer on a few occasions; it was his vision for the club and how he wants to play that convinced me that I will be a perfect fit. The squad was quite young last season, so I'm hoping to bring my leadership qualities to the group and help the club have a successful season. I'm excited to get going with pre-season now and glad we have four home games to get to know the group, the club, and the fans before the start of the season!" Box-to-box central-midfielder Iwan joins Town having represented a number of clubs across the Cymru Leagues, namely with Caersws, Porthmadog and most recently Guilsfield. In 2021/22, Iwan starred for the Guils making 29 total appearances and scoring 5 goals on his way to a JD Cymru North Team of the Season spot alongside his teammate Sam. Iwan told us: "I'm delighted to be joining one of the most established clubs in the league who have such a great following. Taff rang shortly after being announced as manager to talk through his plans for the club and the way he wanted to play. It was never going to be easy to leave a group of lads and club like Guilsfield but I felt it was too good an opportunity to turn down. I'm looking forward to getting back to it ahead of the new season and putting the work in to put us in a good position to start the season!" First Team Manager Anthony Williams said: "I'm delighted that Sam and Iwan have chosen to join us as both had offers elsewhere. They will bring heaps of experience and quality to our squad; Sam is a dominant, athletic centre-half and Iwan brings huge energy as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder." Croeso cynnes i'r ddau! / A warm welcome to both! Midfielder Charley Edge has become the first new addition to arrive in Ceredigion after completing his move to Aberystwyth Town. Aber born Edge joins Anthony Williams’ squad after moving from former Cymru Premier outfit Cefn Druids, for whom he impressed, despite the Ancients suffering two difficult terms in the Welsh Top Flight. 25 year old Edge was born in Ceredigion and attended St Padarns school in the area before making moving to Shropshire. The versatile midfielder has earned international honours having been capped at Wales Under 16 and Under 17’s level. He started his career at Swansea City before joining Everton then onto the Potteries at Stoke City. Following the completion of his scholarship, Edge moved to League Two side Colchester United where he made a solitary appearance as an 84th minute substitute against Crawley Town. Whilst at the U’s, Edge earned experience out on loan at Maldon and Tiptree, Leamington and Needham Market before relocating back to Wales in 2019 after being signed by Huw Griffiths at the Druids. Edge told atfc.org.uk, “When I spoke to the gaffer for the first time, he told me the goals the club have set and how successful they want to be and I believe we can go and do that this season.” “I’m looking forward to be back playing where I was born and where football actually all started for me. 29-year-old Welsh-speaking John first joined Town in January 2017 from Llandudno and immediately flashed his ability to the Green Army, becoming a favourite over the following 18-months, making 41 appearances and scoring 10 goals before a further spell at Llandudno, Cefn Druids and Porthmadog. He was awarded Cymru Premier Player of the Month for November 2021 following two winning goals in consecutive 1-0 victories over The New Saints and Cardiff Met respectively. John told us: “Last season was the best changing room I’ve been involved in. The group had a real togetherness and belief in each other which showed during the latter part of the season. I’m confident that we can take this into the coming season and grow as a group. Having spoken with Taff and hearing his plans and ideas for myself and the club, I was delighted to sign a new contract. I’m sure no stone will be left unturned and we will be ready come the start of the new season. The supporters played a massive part last season and helped push us on in games. I hope they can do the same again and et behind the group – we look forward to seeing them again!” First Team Manager Anthony Williams commented: “I’m delighted to have John back with us next season. He has impressed me each time I have watched him play and having spoken with him recently, I have come to learn how much the club means to him personally.
