Aberystwyth Town FC Shows Support for ‘Mentally Healthy Football’

26/7/2020

Aberystwyth Town FC has welcomed a joint Declaration from the UK football family signifying its support for building a mentally healthy environment at every level of the game, as a lasting legacy of the Heads Up campaign.

The Mentally Healthy Football Declaration will see all of UK football recognising that mental health is as important as physical health and pioneering a ‘team approach’ on this important issue. The UK football family will build on the important work that clubs and football organisations are already doing, working together to roll out these efforts across the football system, share best practice, and support the development of ‘mentally healthy clubs’ at every level of the game.

The landmark Declaration has been signed by senior figures from across the football system, including the FA, the Premier League, the English Football League (EFL), Scottish FA, FA Wales, Irish FA, League Managers Association (LMA), Professional Footballers Association (PFA), Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) and League Football Education (LFE).

Following an unprecedented season for football, mental health issues are more relevant than ever. Through the Declaration, football has committed to working together to embed an environment across all of UK football:

Where players and staff are encouraged to look after their mental health just as they look after their physical health; where they feel able to spot the signs that they, a team-mate or colleague might be struggling and know where to access support; and where speaking out about mental health is seen as a sign of strength rather than weakness.

The Declaration will see the FAW join a UK-wide mental health implementation group next season, working towards a collective ‘game plan’ for the first time to ensure the mental health of players, staff, managers, coaches and officials is prioritised across the game.

The Declaration has also been welcomed by Heads Up’s charity partners Mind, CALM and Sporting Chance, who will work with us all next season to take the Declaration forward.

Mae CPD Tref Aberystwyth wedi croesawu Datganiad ar y cyd gan deulu pêl-droed y Deyrnas Unedig yn dynodi ei gefnogaeth dros feithrin amgylchedd er lles iechyd meddwl ar bob lefel o’r gêm, fel etifeddiaeth barhaus i’r ymgyrch Heads Up.

Drwy’r Datganiad Pêl-droed er Lles Iechyd Meddwl, bydd teulu pêl-droed y DU gyfan yn cydnabod bod iechyd meddwl yr un mor bwysig ag iechyd corfforol, a bydd yn meithrin ‘ymagwedd tîm’ at y mater pwysig hwn. Bydd teulu pêl-droed y DU yn adeiladu ar y gwaith pwysig mae clybiau a sefydliadau eisoes yn ei wneud, gan weithio gyda’n gilydd i gyflwyno’r ymdrechion hyn ar draws y system bêl-droed, rhannu arfer gorau, a chefnogi’r datblygiad o ‘glybiau er lles iechyd meddwl’ ar bob lefel o’r gêm.

Mae’r Datganiad hanesyddol wedi’i lofnodi gan uwch swyddogion o bob rhan o’r system bêl-droed, gan gynnwys y Gymdeithas Bêl-droed (FA), Uwch-Gynghrair Lloegr (Premier League), Cynghrair Bêl-droed Lloegr (EFL), Cymdeithas Bêl-droed yr Alban, Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Cymru, Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Iwerddon, y Gymdeithas Rheolwyr Proffesiynol (LMA), y Gymdeithas Chwaraewyr Proffesiynol (PFA), Swyddogion Gemau’r Gêm Broffesiynol Cyfyngedig (PGMOL) a League Football Education (LFE).

Yn dilyn tymor digynsail i bêl-droed, mae materion iechyd meddwl yn fwy perthnasol nag erioed. Drwy’r Datganiad, mae byd pêl-droed y DU wedi ymrwymo i gydweithio er mwyn ymgorffori amgylchedd lle:
· caiff chwaraewyr a staff eu hannog i edrych ar ôl eu hiechyd meddwl yn yr un ffordd ag y maent eu hiechyd corfforol;
· mae pawb yn teimlo eu bod yn gallu adnabod yr arwyddion eu bod nhw, neu aelod o’r tîm neu gydweithiwr, yn cael trafferthion ac yn gwybod o ble i gael cefnogaeth;
· mae siarad am iechyd meddwl yn cael ei weld fel arwydd o gryfder yn hytrach nag yn wendid.

Bydd y Datganiad yn gweld CBDC yn ymuno â grŵp gweithredu ar iechyd meddwl ar daws y DU y tymor nesaf, gan weithio tuag at ‘gynllun gêm’ ar y cyd am y tro cyntaf erioed i sicrhau bod iechyd meddwl chwaraewyr, staff, rheolwyr, hyfforddwyr a swyddogion yn cael ei flaenoriaethu ar draws y gêm.

Hefyd yn croesawu’r Datganiad mae partneriaid elusennol Heads Up, sef Mind, CALM a Sporting Chance, a fydd yn gweithio gyda ni dros y tymor nesaf i weithredu’r Datganiad.

By George, It's Harry!

16/7/2020

Picture
Aberystwyth Town FC are delighted to announce the recruitment of forward George Harry.

George joins the Black and Greens after spells with Wrexham, Bangor City, Llandudno and most recently Newtown. 21 year old Harry was a product of Wrexham’s youth set-up and made his senior debut for the Dragons as a late substitute in their Boxing Day win over Southport in 2017.  He then joined Bangor City in July of the same year making 22 appearances and scoring 3 goals.

Twelve months after joining the Citizens, Harry joined Llandudno and made 32 appearances, scoring 13 goals, and last year made 18 appearances and scored two goals for Newtown.

George is probably best known in Cymru Premier circles for a stellar strike he scored at Caernarfon for Llandudno in 2018/19, which you can enjoy here:
https://twitter.com/sgorio/status/1079027347884568576

George told atfc.org.uk this evening: "I was really impressed with everything the Manager has planned and the way he wants to play this season. He's put together a very technical, young squad who can hopefully go and compete with the best teams in this league. This is a massive club in the Cymru Premier with great fans who need something to cheer about this season, and hopefully myself and the lads can do that for them. I've missed the football massively and can't wait to get going and get back out there!!"

Everyone at Aberystwyth Town welcomes George to Park Avenue and we look forward to a successful season together!

Evans and Davies Add to Town's Forward Line

Aberystwyth Town is pleased to announce the arrival of strikers Jonathan Evans and Steff Davies from Penrhyncoch.

Jonathan joins for a third spell in Black and Green, while Steff will be debuting at Park Avenue when the new season begins, hopefully in the Autumn of 2020.

27 year old Jonathan is an Aberystwyth Town FC Academy product and son of Mid Wales Travel Supremo and Club Sponsor Mel Evans. As a youngster Jonathan progressed to Cardiff City's Academy and whilst there he represented the Welsh Schoolboys and Under 16s sides, competing in the Victory Shield.

Jonathan then signed for Accrington Stanley before first joining Aber during Alan Morgan's tenure in July 2011. He made 5 WPL Appearances in 2011/12 before moving on to Penrhynoch, and returned to Aber in January 2016. His best moment that season was scoring twice to earn the Black and Greens a 3-1 win at Haverfordwest County, and he also notched a vital last minute winner at Llandudno the following season, but Jonathan returned to Cae Baker later in 2016/7.

A former Bow Street striker, Steff joined Penrhyn during the summer of 2017 having previously represented Haverfordwest County and Caersws.

A physical and strong forward, Steff scored 11 goals in the Roosters’ final two Cymru Alliance seasons, and continued to score last season in the Cymru North, notching five more strikes including a match winning double against Buckley in October 2019.

Everyone at Park Avenue welcomes Jonathan and Steff to Aberystwyth Town FC.

Willo Remains in Black and Green

Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce the retention of striker and Club Captain Marc Williams for the forthcoming season, 2020/21.

Since joining the Club from Bangor City in January 2019, Marc has scored sixteen goals in 38 matches in Black and Green. At the mid season split in January 2020 he lead the way in the Club's official Instat Index, topping the ranking for shots on goal, key passes and dribbles per game. As well as a keen eye for goal Marc is an expert at holding the ball up, and his influence in the dressing room was underlined when he was named Club Captain for the 2019/20 season.

Marc is also an influential character off the field and he was awarded the JD Cymru Premier Player of the Month Award for April 2020, after organising a fundraiser to raise vital funds for NHS Wales. He encouraged other JD Cymru Leagues players to help him in achieving his goal and comfortably reached his target of £5,000.

Marc has previously spent periods with Conference sides Wrexham, Chester, Northwich Victoria and Kidderminster Harriers and has been capped for Wales at U17, U19, U21 and semi-professional levels. He also had spells with Llandudno and Cymru Alliance outfit Bangor City. Known for his prolific goal scoring record, the front man made 86 appearances for Wrexham between 2005 and 2011, scoring 17 goals in the process. He scored 14 goals in 60 games for Conference North side Chester City between 2011 and 2014, and more recently netted 25 goals in 76 games for Llandudno in the JD Welsh Premier League, guiding them to a Europa League qualification tie back in 2016/17.

Marc told atfc.org.uk earlier today: “I'm happy to be staying on! The Management Team are getting together a good mix of youth and experience and I'm looking forward to getting Aber up the table and hopefully pushing for the Top Six.”

Everyone at Park Avenue is delighted to have Marc back on board for the forthcoming season.
