Friday 12th October (7:45p.m Kick Off) Aberystwyth Town v Caernarfon Town Aberystwyth Town will look to get back to winning ways as they host Caernarfon Town in the JD Welsh Premier League at Park Avenue on Friday evening. The seasiders are without a win in their last four games in all competitions, and will be keen to stop the rot as they look to keep pace with the league's top six during a crucial few weeks of league action. Last friday's defeat to Cefn Druids was a difficult pill to swallow for the black and greens, after performing much better than they had done in their previous three fixtures but still coming away empty handed. Assistant Manager, Gavin Allen, commented on the side's performance levels after the game, stating "We controlled large parts of the game tonight, and it was a much improved performance from last week which gives us something to build and improve on now". Aber's assistant was also keen to emphasise the need for the players to maintain their belief and confidence, despite defeat, stating "There were some very good performances throughout the team again tonight, we just made a couple of wrong decisions in key areas, but we know that on our day we can beat anybody in the league and we'll take that attitude into the Caernarfon game Friday". The seasiders are hopeful that wingman Ryan Edwards will be fully fit for Friday's clash after sitting out last weekend's victory against Druids, whilst Joe Phillips will also be pushing for a start after suffering from a bout of tonsillitis last week. Friday's visitors Caernarfon have enjoyed an excellent start to the season on their return to the JD Welsh Premier League, picking up 14 points from their opening 9 games and currently sitting in 6th place in the league table. Manager Sean Eardley has been full of praise for his players thus far, including former black and greens Jamie Crowther and Darren Thomas who will make their return to Park Avenue with the Cofi's on Friday evening. We’re delighted to confirm that main club sponsors Aberystwyth University have chosen this Friday's game as the second of four free games for students. Simply show your Aber Card at the gate and get in for free! A huge crowd is expected for what promises to be a cracker under the Friday night lights, and kick off at Park Avenue is at 7:45p.m. Admission costs £8 adults, £5 concessions and £2 for u16's...don't let the weather forecast dampen your spirits as the black and greens look to get back to winning ways! Sunday 7th October 2018 Aberystwyth Town Ladies 2 Willows Ladies 0 Aber Town Ladies made it four wins in five matches thanks to two excellent goals on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Park Avenue writes Steven Brookes. After victory at Dafen last week Aber were keen to to pick up another three points and the Black and Greens made a strong start against Willows. The home side were causing the opposition defence numerous problems and nearly opened the scoring through Kelly Thomas on two separate occasions, both from corners, whilst Tania Wylde and Lisa Cowdy were causing problems for the Willows full backs. Wylde also had a long range attempt tipped wide by the keeper and later fired over from a tight angle after an excellent ball from Cowdy. Willows did have their moments though, Ffion Ashman making a couple of important saves, but it was the team in green that broke the deadlock. Kelly Thomas won a free kick a fair distance from goal, former Wales international Caroline Cooper wasn't afraid to shoot and the ball looped over the keeper and into the net. Cooper nearly scored again later in the half from another free kick but the away side's keeper did well to tip the ball over the bar. Despite being in the lead and creating numerous opportunities there was a sense of frustration going into the break and the home side seemed determined to improve in the second half. Wylde and Cooper both came close again to getting Aber's second, but Aber did eventually double their lead... and in some style! Some well-worked build up play was followed by an outstanding strike from Thomas from distance, her third goal in the last four matches. Ffiona Evans later saw her close range strike saved as Aber began to really dominate. The day then got worse for the visitors as they were reduced to 10 players when a red card was shown due to 'Foul and Abusive Language' aimed at the referee. Town were looking very strong and continued to threaten: the Willows goalkeeper had to make another good save to prevent Cooper from scoring again, whilst Naomi Evans was unlucky not score her third of the season after turning well in the box before seeing her strike saved. Wylde came close once again near the end with another long range strike; this one was spilled by the goalkeeper who then did well to recover and stop the ball from crossing the line. This was a well-deserved win and another clean sheet for the hosts as they continue their promotion push. Next Sunday the Ladies face a Welsh Cup tie aganst Merthyr Town at Park Avenue with a slightly later than usual kick off time of 4pm. Aberystwyth Town Ladies scored some impressive goals in September. Thanks to Steven Brookes and Wolverhampton Wanderers Womens players Anna Price and Lowri Walker, a shortlist of four has now been made. Now it's time to vote for your favourite! Vote closes on Thursday at 6pm. JD Welsh Premier League
Friday 5th October Cefn Druids 1-0 Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town fell to their second successive JD Welsh Premier League as they lost 1-0 at the hands of Cefn Druids on Friday evening, thanks to James Davies' 86th minute wonder strike at The Rock. The black and greens were on top for large periods throughout the game, but the one true moment of quality was produced by the hosts late on, as Davies curled the ball beyond Aber 'keeper Terry McCormick to take all three points. Aber made two changes to the starting line up from last weekend's defeat at home to Barry, as Terry McCormick replaced Leigh Jenkins in goal and Geoff Kellaway replaced Ryan Edwards. The seasiders got off to a bright start at The Rock as Wes Baynes tried his luck from range after 6 minutes, with his lob ending up on the roof of the net, before Matty Owen curled a left footed shot inches wide of the post for the hosts at the other end. On 14 minutes the hosts went close once more as Steff Edwards cleared Arkadiusz Piskorski's back post effort off the goal line, before Aber went up the other end as Baynes tried his luck once more - this time forcing an excellent save from home 'keeper Thompson down to his right. As the half wore on, the visitors grew in confidence, and earned a succession of free kicks in dangerous positions that Druids did well to deal with inside the six yard area. Rio Ahmadi went close on the stroke of half time as he cut inside before firing a shot into the side netting, whilst Piskorski crossed for Dean Wittenberg at the other end who's flicked effort went inches wide, but it was to remain 0-0 at the half. The second half was a more cagey and tense affair, with both sides struggling to create clear goalscoring opportunities early on. On 54 minutes, Paulo Mendes tried his luck with a right footed effort that was almost fumbled into his net by home 'keeper Thompson, before Naim Arsan shot well over with a long range left footed strike. Aber introduced Nash Blake and Joe Phillips in place of Geoff Kellaway and Rio Ahmadi seeking some added impetus, but struggled to create anything meaningful in front of goal as the game wore on. On 80 minutes, wingman Jordan Evans went close for the hosts as McCormick tired his long range strike on to the post, before Druids broke the deadlock on 86 minutes as James Davies cut inside and fired an unstoppable right footed shot into the far corner to make it 1-0. The visitors had little time to react, but did create a late flurry of opportunities as Mendes turned and fired wide in the penalty area before Ruan headed just wide at the death, but it wasn't to be as the seasiders left The Rock empty handed. It was a difficult defeat to take for Aber, in a game where they defended well but didn't create enough in front of goal to merit taking all three points. the seasiders will be keen to snap out of their recent dip in form as they welcome Caernarfon to Park Avenue next Friday evening in the JD Welsh Premier League.
