Everyone at Aberystwyth Town is delighted and excited by Academy Product Tom Bradshaw's inclusion in the Welsh Squad to face the Netherlands at the Cardiff City Stadium next Friday night, and we extend our congratulations to Tom on this major achievement in his career. Welsh Manager Chris Coleman feels that the inclusion of Bradshaw shows that there is an opportunity for Dafabet WPL Players to progress to the National Squad, as he explained to FAW TV: "It's good for the Welsh Premier League: there is a pathway and if (the Players) are good enough and work hard, like Tom has, then you never know. I'm happy about (his inclusion), happy for Aberystwyth where he started. It's good for Tom, he has earned his opportunity." Watch the full interview with Chris Coleman on FAW TV here. Centre forward Tom, who wears the Number 9 short for Walsall is currently enjoying his best ever season having scored 23 goals from 45 appearances for the Saddlers, and he was named on standby for Wales' Senior Squad last October. Shrewsbury-born Tom was a part of Aberystwyth Town's Academy for a number of years while his family were living in Tywyn, and he made his debut for the Black and Greens in 2009, scoring 2 goals in four games and coming on as a substitute in the 2009 Welsh Cup Final. Bradshaw then moved to Shrewsbury Town, scoring 17 goals in 89 appearances over 5 years before his move to the Bescot Stadium in the summer of 2014. Dutch defenders should take note of Tom's habit of scoring debut goals. Having completed five years of education in Wales Tom played for Wales' Under 19s and Under 21s side - and he scored on his debut for both, as he did at Shrewsbury and Walsall. In fact the Black and Greens are the only side Tom failed to score for on his debut! Dafabet Welsh Premier League Friday 6th November (kick off 7.30pm) Rhyl v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town will be glad to get back on the road on Friday night after two disappointing home results momentarily stalled the excellent momentum the team had created in a seven game unbeaten run, and Manager Ian Hughes will be looking for a positive response as the Black and Greens visit Belle Vue, home of Rhyl FC. Aber have the second best away record in the Dafabet WPL having won four and drawn one of their last five matches away from Park Avenue, and they will have to be on top form again on Friday night to extend that run. Opponents Rhyl created a favourable impression before succumbing to a 3-1 defeat at Park Avenue in August, and having recently got the Lillywhites back within touching distance of Dafabet WPL safety, new Manager Gareth Owen will be striving for a positive result of his own. Town Supporters will have the chance to reacquaint themselves with Stephen Wright and Michael Walsh, who having left Aber Town now don the white shirts of Rhyl. Aber’s injury situation has lessened over the past week to the extent that Geoff Kellaway and Rhys Griffiths are the only concerns for Club Physio Ffiona Evans as things stand. Ross Stephens has started 299 WPL games, and Cledan Davies has 99 starts for Aber, so both Players will be passing milestones if they are selected from the start. There has been some movement in Ian Hughes’ Squad as Darren Thomas and Liam Lewis have been released to sign for other Clubs, while goalkeeper Phil Draper has moved to Caersws. The Club thanks all three Players for their efforts and wishes them well in the future. Meanwhile Jack Rimmer has signed a two year contract with the Club, and Liam Jaques has been impressing with his work ethic and attitude in training. Ian Hughes has a strong squad to choose from and his Players should be confident of getting a good result on the North Wales Coast on Friday. Hughes told atfc.org.uk this afternoon: “We’re only 3 points off third place so I expect a reaction from the Players after the last two results. We were on a good run up until last week and we plan to go on another good run from now until Christmas”. The Coach leaves Park Avenue at 3.30pm and a twilight return trip to Rhyl will cost a mere £10 for Adults and £5 Concessions. Amazing Friday night value for money! Aberystwyth Town FC have been handed a Golden Opportunity to exact revenge for their Welsh Cup Final defeat to The New Saints in May 2014 after the sides were drawn together in yesterday's JD Welsh Cup Third Round Draw. The sides last Welsh Cup meeting took place at the Glyndwr University Stadium in Wrexham two seasons ago, when two goals from Chris Venables put Aber within reach of the Trophy, but a late comeback from the Saints ensured they grabbed the glory and the Cup with a narrow 3-2 win, which was agonising for the Seasiders' superb following on the day. TNS have been drawn at home in this season's tie and the Black and Greens are thrilled to be involved in a game which surely has to be billed as the Tie of the Round, featuring two of last season's Top Four in the Dafabet WPL. The Match will be played over the weekend of December 5th, ironically one week before Aber visit TNS for a Dafabet WPL Match! |
