WINS FOR LADIES AND U19S

30/11/2016

Aber Town Ladies 3 Rhyl Ladies 0
Our Ladies side claimed all three points and sit sixth in the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League after their win over North Wales side Rhyl on Sunday. Neither side could break the deadlock before the break but Kelly Thomas found the back of the net in the 47th minute. A brace from Amy Jenkins in the 59th and 77th minute then sealed the win for Aberystwyth.

Carmarthen Town Under 19s 2 Aber Town Under 19s 4
Meanwhile Aber’s Under 19s side, again including Geoff Kellaway, Luke Sherbon and Jack Rimmer in its starting XI, beat Carmarthen Town away on Monday night by 4 goals to 2. Kellaway and Rimmer both scored twice to take the team up to seventh place in the Welsh Premier Development League (South).

Aberystwyth Town FC Extends Best Wishes to Club Stalwart Ken Williams

29/11/2016

Picture
Aberystwyth Town FC extends its best wishes for a swift recovery to the Club's record appearance holder Ken Williams, after his recent stroke.
Ken, bottom left in the team photo from the mid 1980s (left), had an amazing 642 game career in Black and Green which is summarised in Dai Pugh's Updated History of the Club thus: "Ken Williams, equally excellent at full back and central midfield, was a regular in the first team between 1974/5 and 1991. The blonde bomber played a record 642 games for the Black and Greens, scored 45 goals, captained the team for four seasons and made two appearances for the Welsh non League team. A model of consistency on the field, marvellously two footed, strong in the tackle and a powerful runner with the ball, Ken Williams is regarded as one of Aber's outstanding post-war players."

Ken was one of the most popular stars to turn out in Aber Town's Leave Your Mark game in May, and the Club looks forward to hearing further news of his recovery in the near future. Get well soon Ken.

Bish: “We’ve Just Got To Be Better Over the 90 Minutes"

28/11/2016

Following an incredibly difficult week off the field, everyone at Aberystwyth Town was delighted to see a match take place on Park Avenue on Friday evening. The collapse of a two of the ground’s floodlights after the recent freak storms put serious doubt on the club’s ability to host fixtures for the foreseeable future. However, thanks to the tireless work of club officials, temporary floodlights were set up and a crowd of over 500 welcomed the Seasiders back to action.

However, it wasn’t to be a happy return for the  Black and Greens. Despite Kurtis March’s maiden goal for Town, the Black and Greens ended up on the reverse of a 3-1 scoreline. Manager Matthew Bishop was left frustrated by his side’s slow start.

“We’ve just got to be better over the 90 minutes. We were awful first half. We didn’t turn up. We made poor decisions. We didn’t look confident and didn’t want the ball. It was a poor show and I’m very disappointed with that."

“But second half we got hold of the ball, we passed it and did the things we did well. We moved with the ball and broke with pace.  We had a few chances. I said before the game we had to take the chances when they come.”
He told our club’s Youtube channel following the completion of the evening fixture.

Friday night’s game marked the half way point in the season. With 16 games elapsed, a further 16 games will determine the final outcome of Town’s season.

“It’s been a difficult season so far.  It’s three defeats but we’ve played Bala twice and Connahs Quay. We have conceded goals in those games but they’re up there for a reason. It’s quite ironic really because it’s such a tight league, but to still be in the hunt is credit to the lads especially after the start we had."

“We’ve got to focus on every game. Take each game as it comes. We need to get as many points as we can before the split. Everyone’s beating everyone in the division but we’ve got to focus on us. We’ve got the added advantage of having a lot of home games in that run.”

Aberystwyth Town 1 BALA tOWN 3: Match Report

25/11/2016

Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Friday 25th November
Aberystwyth Town 1-3 Bala Town

The 530 in attendance at Park Avenue, boosted by our Annual Students Night, were left bitterly disappointed on a bitterly cold Friday night in Aberystwyth.

From the start, the home side failed to get going and found themselves with their back to the walls for the majority of the first 45. Bala continually knocked at the door from the off, coming agonizingly close at one point as a deflected shot from the right bobbled dangerously across the face of goal. The visitors continued the sustained pressure and the Black and Green defence finally gave way in the 26th minute courtesy of a scrappy goal from forward, Mike Hayes. Going behind failed to spark Aber into life and a mere three minutes later, Bala were hunting for more but brilliantly denied, acrobatically by goalkeeper Chris Mullock. To compound the frustration around Park Avenue, a poorly defended corner saw Lee Hunt net to double the score.

The second half saw a considerable improvement from the home side, cheered on by the home support. The chances finally started to develop but failed to half the deficit as Luke Borelli curled a fine shot just over the bar and Kurtis March missing the target from a smart, technical period of build up play. There was a goal in the offing that all inside the ground could sense.
As time ticked on it seemed it was not to be our day, that is until the 75th minute a speedy burst down the left from Kostya Georgievsky and a perfect square ball to connect with the end of March's 50 yard run saw the ball in the back of the net and belief restored. However the  home side failed to build on this, finding themselves frustratingly just short of finding what would have been a sensational equalizer. All hope was vanquished as the visitors snatched a third in injury time to end all chance of gaining any points from this encounter.

Next up for the Black and Greens is a break from the league campaign as we take on Holywell in the cup.

Aber Defy the Excesses of Nature to Get Friday's Bala Game On!

23/11/2016

Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Friday 25th November (ko 7.45pm)
Aberystwyth Town v Bala Town

With Aber Town Club Officials having moved heaven and earth to get the game on, Matthew Bishop's Black and Greens finally get back to action in 48 hours as Bala Town visit a Park Avenue ground which has defied the excesses of nature to host its latest Dafabet Welsh Premier League tie!

Six days ago this match seemed inconceivable as 95mph winds felled two of the Clubs' eight floodlights and strewed the 3G pitch with debris. Happily Club Officials and volunteers have worked hard to clear the surface and hire in two temporary floodlights, allowing the game to proceed.

On the field Aber couldn't wish for better opponents, as revenge is most definitely on the cards. Two weeks ago the Seasiders lost heavily at Bala's Maes Tegid, and the Players will be desperate to prove in front of a large crowd that they are so much better than they looked that night. Sam Rodon is suspended after his injury time red card, but Captain Luke Sherbon returns refreshed after his one game ban.

Bala are on a good run of results which has lifted them as high as third in the League, but Black and Greens fans will be looking to their side to prove their Top Six credentials by getting a positive result against a quality side which would really kick off a run of three home games with a bang.

Friday night games guarantee a superb atmosphere anyway at Park Avenue, but this week's encounter will really whet the appetite for a number of different reasons, not least as the game will showcase the Club's annual Student Promotion night. Aberystwyth University Students will be admitted for half price - a mere £2 - and Admission will include a free hot dog in the Clubhouse. University DIGS League Teams are expected to be strongly represented on the night.

Kick off at Park Avenue on Friday is at 7.45pm and Admission will cost £6 for Adults, £4 Concessions, £2 for Students and £1 for Children. It will be the only place to be on Friday, so make sure you play your part and roar the boys to victory!
