Aberystwyth Town vs Newtown
JD Cymru Premier Friday 10th October 8pm Kick-Off It is a second straight home game in a row for the Black & Greens this Friday, as they welcome nearest neighbours Newtown to Aberystwyth University Park Avenue Stadium. Aber come into this game on the back of a battling performance against reigning the Champions, Connah's Quay Nomads, where a draw may have been a fairer result given the Seasiders second half performance. This will be the first chance that fans have to applaud Antonio Corbisiero and John Owen for winning Manager and Player of the Month for November 2021! Everyone at the club was delighted to hear the news and congratulations to both on these well-deserved honours. Friday’s visitors, Newtown, are having an excellent season so far and currently sit in 3rd place in the table. Chris Hughes’ side currently look well placed to challenge for a return to Europe again, following their matches in the Europa Conference League in the summer against Dundalk FC. Their goals return of 30 in the 15 games played so far, is only bettered by The New Saints and Flint Town United, the two teams that sit directly above them. This has been helped by the signing of Aaron Williams, who has hit 20 goals so far this season, including 11 in the JD Cymru Premier. Williams is joined in the Top Scorers charts by the ever-reliable Nick Rushton, who has scored 5 goals in 14 matches; Fumpa Mwandwe who has 4 in 15 and Jordan Evans who has hit 3 in 10. Newtown come into this match on the back of a 2-1 win at home to Barry Town United last Saturday. They fell behind early on, but James Davies had the Robins level on 59 minutes, before an excellent strike from George Hughes three minutes later gave them all three points. The reverse fixture in September will be remembered for Jamie Veale’s remarkable 50-yard lob which gave Aber a 1-0 lead. Jonathan Evans then secured all three points in the second half, after Callum Roberts had equalised, as the Seasiders took all three points back to Ceredigion. The Sgorio cameras will be beaming this game live to the nation on Facebook, but you can’t beat being there in person, so if you can make it down to Park Avenue then make sure you do … this Mid-Wales Derby is always worth it!! Tickets are £7 for Adults, £4 for concessions, U16’s Free! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In accordance with the FAW Return to Play Protocols for Alert Level 0 Regulations, published in August 2021, please do not enter the ground if You have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 28 days You have been or are currently a contact of a COVID-19 case or a suspected case You are currently self-isolating You are feeling unwell You have a cough, throat pain, muscle pain, unusual weakness, short of breath, chest pain, any palpitations (abnormal heart rate), diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, a loss of taste or smell or any other signs or symptoms of COVID-19 Please refer to HSE guidelines (https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/index.htm) on how you should proceed should any of these conditions apply to you If you are in any doubt please do not attend the fixture The Board of Directors, Aberystwyth Town Football Club Aberystwyth Town FC is delighted to learn that Antonio Corbisiero and John Owen have won the Cymru Premier Manager and Player of the Month Awards for November 2021!

They earned a point away from home against Barry Town United, toppled the leaders The New Saints and backed that up with a win against Cardiff Met. Player of the Month John Owen – Aberystwyth Town John Owen's two goals in November proved decisive as Aberystwyth Town toppled the leaders The New Saints and Cardiff Met with 1-0 victories. JD Cymru Premier
Friday 3rd December Aberystwyth Town 0 Connah’s Quay Nomads 1 In a classic game of two halves Paulo Mendes’ 31st minute header proved crucial for Connah’s Quay, who after 45 minutes of dominance, survived a second half onslaught from the hosts and held on for a crucial win at Park Avenue last night. On a chilly evening a respectable crowd of 352 showed up, encouraged by the Black and Greens’ November resurgence under Manager of the Month nominee Antonio Corbisiero. However it was the visitors who showed their Champions credentials early on by dominating possession and creating some good chances. Home keeper Gregor Zabret was called on early to punch an effort clear before Ryan Harrington bobbled the rebound wide. Zabret had to pull out a second brilliant save minutes later, and as Kris Owen’s free kick deflected to safety Town were defending stoutly and hanging on. Going forward Jack Rimmer was Aber’s best outlet, sending in two promising crosses for Jon Owen, but in general Aber were struggling to get a foothold in the game, and after Zabret denied George Horan’s header, the floodgates finally opened when Declan Poole sent in a right wing cross and Mendes rose to power home a header and open the score. Zabret saved from Horan again, then denied Kris Owens, Callum Morris fired wide and there followed a lengthy delay after a nasty clash of heads between Ollie Byrne and Danny Holmes. Holmes was unable to continue and everyone at Aberystwyth Town FC wish him a speedy recovery from his injury. After eight minutes of injury time the whistle went with Aber in truth relieved to have kept the score to one at the break. The Black and Greens changed their formation at half time and saw an instant positive response, enjoying more of the ball in midfield and creating plenty of chances. Lee Jenkins had a shot blocked and the soon after Matty Jones was denied in a similar way, after Harry Franklin’s swashbuckling run down the left. Franklin then appeared to be upended in the box but received a yellow card rather than a penalty, which looked harsh from the hosts’ point of view. Then Jamie Veale’s deep free kick was headed back across the box by Louis Bradford and Franklin was again really unlucky to see a goalbound effort deflected for a corner. Aber then seemed certain to score when Player of the Month nominee Jon Owen was released down the right side, and unleashed a bullet strike, only for Byrne to pull off a brilliant reaction save to keep his side in front. With Franklin starting to purr a home goal was looking increasingly likely, with the visitors content to sit in and defend their narrow lead. Owen had another shot deflected for a corner, and Byrne saved from Matty Jones next. A rare attack at the other end saw Poole setting up Jamie Insall, but Zabret saved his header, and normal service was resumed with Rimmer firing over from the right. Jonathan Evans was next to go just wide with a snapshot from inside the area, and when Lee Jenkins was fouled on the edge of the area, surely Aber’s big moment had come? Sadly Veale’s free kick was repelled by a very impressive Noamds backline. Alex Darlington had an effort blocked, Matty Jones saw two corners cleared off the line and Owen clipped a shot wide - and Connah’s Quay had survived the Alamo. Insall rounded Zabret but found the side netting in injury time and the Champions had survived an almighty onslaught to hold on to the three points. Aber’s first half was not one of their best last night, but their dominance of the second half against the Champions was a sight to behold, surely worthy of a point at least and must give Corbisiero’s men huge confidence going forward. Their next JD Cymru Premier assignment comes on Friday evening with a home match against Newtown (ko 8pm), and if you get what you deserve in football Town are due a slice of luck! See you there. Aberystwyth Town vs Connahs Quay Nomads
JD Cymru Premier Friday 3rd December 8pm Kick-Off Aberystwyth Town return to action for the first time in two weeks as they welcome reigning Cymru Premier Champions Connahs Quay Nomads to Aberystwyth University Park Avenue Stadium. Antonio Corbisiero’s side come into this match on an excellent run of form, having remained unbeaten during November – drawing one and winning the last two. Goalkeeper Gregor Zabret has also recorded back-to-back clean sheets for the first time in the league this season – just reward for his consistently excellent performances since signing in August. This week’s visitors, the Nomads, had to endure a difficult start to the campaign this time around. Andy Morrison stepped down as Manager in late September, having led the club to the last two Cymru Premier Championships and the team suffered four defeats in their opening nine games. Craig Harrison was appointed as Manager shortly after Morrison’s departure and they have remained unbeaten in their last five league matches – including a three-match winning run during late October / early November. The Nomads also remain in both cup competitions, having beaten Bala Town in the Semi-Final of the Nathaniel MG Cup last weekend to set up a final against Cardiff Met, whilst also progressing to the Quarter-Finals of the Welsh Cup where they will take on Colwyn Bay in February. Whilst Connahs Quay have the joint meanest defence in the league, only conceding 9 goals, their goals return has decreased dramatically this season, from an average of 2.2 per game last season to 1.14 this time around. This could be explained by the loss of their talismanic striker Michael Wilde to Flint Town United during the summer, which has meant only Craig Curran, Callum Morris (both 3) and Aaron Edwards (2) have scored more than a single goal in the league this season. One of Curran’s three goals came in the first meeting between these two sides this season – a 1-0 win for Nomads at Deeside Stadium, despite a valiant performance from the Seasiders which saw both sides create opportunities throughout the 90 minutes. Its always a big night when the Champions are in town and with both sides in good form, this could prove to be an early Festive treat for all fans. Tickets are just £7 for Adults / £4 concessions whilst Under 16’s are free. Come and see if the Black & Greens can continue their ascent up the table! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In accordance with the FAW Return to Play Protocols for Alert Level 0 Regulations, published in August 2021, please do not enter the ground if You have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 28 days You have been or are currently a contact of a COVID-19 case or a suspected case You are currently self-isolating You are feeling unwell You have a cough, throat pain, muscle pain, unusual weakness, short of breath, chest pain, any palpitations (abnormal heart rate), diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, a loss of taste or smell or any other signs or symptoms of COVID-19 Please refer to HSE guidelines (https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/index.htm) on how you should proceed should any of these conditions apply to you If you are in any doubt please do not attend the fixture The Board of Directors, Aberystwyth Town Football Club |
