Connah's Quay Nomads v Aberystwyth Town: Match Preview

22/8/2018

Aberystwyth Town will look to bounce back from last weekend’s home defeat as they travel to face Connah’s Quay Nomads at the Deeside Stadium in the JD Welsh Premier League on Friday evening. Aber were well beaten on a difficult night for the black and greens against a strong Cardiff Met outfit last weekend, and they will be keen to get back to a similar performance level shown on the opening JD Welsh Premier League weekend victory when they beat Llandudno at Park Avenue.

Despite falling to defeat, Aber Director of Football Nev Powell insisted the seasiders would learn quickly from their mistakes and put the performance right this weekend against the Nomads. “That wasn’t quite us out there tonight, and we had a lot of youngsters on that pitch who’ll learn from their mistakes, that’s the only way we’ll get better.” Indeed, Aber’s youthful side will certainly learn plenty from each performance at this early stage in the season as they look to improve as a team. Local youngsters such as Lee Jenkins (16 years old), Mathew Jones (19 years old) and Jack Rimmer (19 years old) have already established their places in the first team squad and are sure to continue their improvement with more game time in the JD Welsh Premier League.

Powell also praised the endeavour of the seasiders on Friday evening, stating “The positive from the defeat against Cardiff Met is that we kept going and the lads gave 110% effort. We kept playing our way and the second half performance was much improved”. Aber will again be looking for similar levels of commitment and endeavour on Friday evening as they face an in-form Connah’s Quay Nomads side.

Andy Morrison’s side have got off to a flying start this season, winning both their opening games against Llanelli and league champions The New Saints, scoring eight goals in the process. The Nomads also boast a fine defensive record, keeping two clean sheets in two games this season. Nevertheless, Aber can take heart from the fact they’ve scored six goals in their last three fixtures against Connah’s Quay – their most notable performance being a 4-2 victory at Park Avenue back in January thanks to Joe Phillips’ hat-trick. The most recent clash between the sides saw the Nomads beat Aber 4-1 in the Welsh Cup Final in early May.

In what is sure to be an excellent test for the black and greens in their first away fixture of the season, kick off at the Deeside Stadium is at 7:45p.m. Connah’s Quay Nomads address is listed as Deeside Stadium, Kelsterton Road, Connah's Quay, Deeside, CH5 4BR. Aber will be looking to cause an upset as they aim to get their season back on track Friday evening.
