Corbettsports Welsh Premier League
Friday 13th March (ko 7.45pm)
Aberystwyth Town will be hoping that Friday the 13th turns out to be lucky for them in two days’ time, as they host the Steelmen of Port Talbot Town in another mouth watering Championship Conference WPL match.
Following last week’s unlucky defeat at home to Airbus in the Welsh Cup Quarter Finals The Black and Greens are now free to focus entirely on the Challenge of securing a Top Two finish for the first time in their history – a target the Players are certainly good enough to achieve, having spent a good deal of the season in just that position. The competition from Airbus and Bala is fierce, but Aber’s key matches will take place at Park Avenue, starting on Friday night.
Port Talbot’s form dipped worryingly as they lost their first three matches in the Top Six, but after Manager Bernard McInally’s departure they rallied to beat Newtown 4-0 two weeks ago, taking them up to fifth place in the WPL just below Aber. Since then Andy Dyer has been named as Permanent Manager and Friday will be his first game in charge.
Aber for their part report a clean bill of health and Manager Ian Hughes will be glad to welcome back Ross Stephens to the Squad, who last week was Cup tied, as Chris Venables sits out the last game of his suspension on Friday.
A terrific End of Term Atmosphere is guaranteed by a Student Promotion which sees Aberystwyth University Students admitted for £2 and treated to a complimentary Hot Dog. The University DIGS League’s Teams are competing to bring the most Players in full kit, and a winning team from Aberystwyth University’s Marketing Department will be our guests in the Executive Box for the game.
Admission for Adults costs £5, non Student Concessions are £3, and Kids can get in for £1: so the only Unlucky People in Aber this Friday 13th will be the ones who miss the game! Kick off is at 7.45pm - see you there.
