Remaining with the Club will be popular goalkeeper Terry McCormick, and talented winger Ryan Edwards . Two new names to join the Club will be Ben Birch, who joins from Tividale, and young Alex Boss, who made a big impression at Bangor City last season.
Terry McCormick’s season was something of a fairytale. Rescued from retirement by a chance meeting with Neville Powell at Chester Zoo in the summer, Terry came in to make a number of outstanding performances helping Aber to ensure an eighth place finish. Supporters even adapted a popular song by The Killers to show their appreciation of the experienced netminder!
Ryan Edwards also had the Black and Green tifosi singing his name in 2018/9, most memorably following outstanding performances at home to TNS and away at Cardiff Met, after which Edwards also demonstrated his unique dancing style. Ryan can operate on the wing or in central midfield which makes him another strong addition to Matthew Bishop’s squad.
Ben Birch will join from Tividale in the West Midlands League, where the 23 year old scored 6 goals from 41 appearances last season. Signed in March 2018, he is described as “a ball playing Centre Back, comfortable with the ball at his feet and also plays a major role in set plays”. Ben was with Cheltenham Town from the age of 8 until he was sixteen. At 17 he signed a pro contract at Mansfield Town, and went on to play in Australia for the 2016-2017 season. His previous clubs include Redditch and Stourbridge.
Right midfielder Alex Boss meanwhile was one of Bangor’s best performers in last season’s Cymru Alliance and will be aiming to prove he can make the step up to the Welsh Premier League in 2019/20. A product of Bangor City’s Academy who has also played for Holyhead Hotspur Alex is noted for his electrifying pace and direct play. Still only 19 Alex has a bright future in the game, hopefully at Park Avenue!
Everyone at Aberystwyth Town Football Club welcomes Ben and Alex to the Club, and we are also delighted that Terry and Ryan will be back with us in 2019/20!
