Llanelli Town v Aberystwyth Town: Match Preview

JD Welsh Premier League
Friday 8th February (7:45 pm kick Off)
Llanelli Town v Aberystwyth Town

Aberystwyth Town will look to build on their point gained against Llandudno last weekend as they chase all three when they travel to face Llanelli at Stebonheath in the JD Welsh Premier League on Friday evening. Geoff Kellaway's wonder goal earned the Seasiders a thoroughly deserved draw at Park Avenue last weekend, halting a seven game losing streak, and the Black and Greens will now look to push on and chase that seventh placed finish in the league table.

After last weekend's draw, Assistant Manager Gavin Allen admitted it was more important not to lose than to chase victory at home against Llandudno, with confidence in the dressing room at its lowest for a while. "The biggest thing for us tonight was not to lose the game. Our expectations are to aim for those Europa League Play Offs at the end of the season, but first and foremost we need to secure our place in the league and take points off the teams below us".

Last friday's goal scoring hero, the evergreen Geoff Kellaway voiced a similar opinion to that of his Assistant Manager, admitting that stopping the rot could well be the key to putting together another good run of form towards the end of the season. "We wanted to start the second phase positively, and I think we've done that. Obviously we would have liked to win the game tonight but the most important thing was not to lose and hopefully we can kick on from here".

Youngster Carwyn Jones and new target man Marc Williams made their Black and Greens debuts last Friday and will again be pushing for a starting place, as Aber travel to Stebonheath with a near full squad to choose from. Friday's hosts Llanelli currently lie eleventh in the JD Welsh Premier league table, six points adrift of safety and received a major blow to their survival hopes his week with the news of Leon Britton's season-ending injury. The Reds' squad does include a number of former Seasiders, including Joe Clarke, Kurtis March and Chris Jones, and they have picked up four points from their last three league games.

In both fixtures between the sides during Phase 1 of the season, Aber ran out 3-1 victors, and the Black and Greens travel to Stebonheath seeking a similarly positive result once more on Friday. Town lie just three points behind seventh placed Cardiff Met in the chase for the lucrative Europa League play-off spot, and with nine games to go in the league season, they now need to re-discover their November form and end on a high note. Kick off at Stebonheath on Friday is at 7:45 pm, and the Green Army of supporters will hope to cheer their side on to victory once more.
