Match Preview: Hav'west County vs ATFC

4/4/2022

Haverfordwest County vs Aberystwyth Town
JD Cymru Premier
Tuesday 5th April
7.45pm KO

The Black & Greens are back in mid-week action again this coming Tuesday and face a visit to Bridge Meadow – home of Haverfordwest County.

Antonio Corbisiero’s team come into the fixture on the back of a gutsy performance at reigning Cyrmu Premier Champions, Connahs Quay Nomads, where few could argue that Aber were good value for at least a point. Unfortunately, it was an astonishing penalty decision, converted by Callum Morris, that denied the Seasiders a share of the spoils on Friday night when their efforts deserved far more.

Haverfordwest were in action on Saturday and fell to their first defeat in seven league games, going down 3-2 at Cardiff Met University. Substitutes Jack Williams and Alaric Jones were on target for the Bluebirds, who currently sit in 8th place in the league – three points ahead of ATFC and three behind Cardiff Met, who hold the all-important 7th spot which opens the door for a place in the end of season playoffs.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides so far this season with the previous three all coming in the last couple of months. Goals from Mathew Jones & Sam Phillips gave Aber the victory in February on the night when the club celebrated becoming the first team to play 1000 Cymru Premier fixtures, before the two teams played out a 0-0 draw at Bridge Meadow ten days later. Haverfordwest then extracted revenge with a victory at Park Avenue in March.

There are some familiar faces in the Bluebirds ranks this season. Ricky Watts and Elliot Scotcher both spent time at Park Avenue in the 2016/17 season under Matthew Bishop, whilst Haverfordwest’s current top scorer Alhagi Touray Sisay spent a few months at Park Avenue in 2019/20, netting 4 goals before the Covid pandemic curtailed the campaign.

Bridge Meadow can be found by using Postcode SA61 2EX and tickets are priced at £7.50 for Adults / £5 for Concessions / Under 16’s free. This is the second of three successive trips on the road for ATFC and as the season nears its climax, the Green Army are needed more than ever! Come on Aber!
