Cardiff Met fresh from their European adventure were first to force the pace when Jassie Vascon tested young Katie Christopher in the Aber goal who was more than a match to keep the effort out. Aber prompted by some good work in midfield by Kelly Thomas and Helen Evans forced a series of corners which had the Met defence defending desperately and a Wylde effort was headed off the line before she also bought out a good save from the visiting keeper Mureira after 20 minutes. Aber were holding their own but could sense that Met had a few more gears to up the tempo and after 34 minutes a deft back heel by Robyn Pinder from a Vascon corner broke the deadlock. The Aber ladies responded well and with Ffion Wyn Roberts and Hamman Pussey forcing the Met rear guard to give away possession it was Aber who were on the front foot going into the break.
It was important that Aber did not concede a second goal but after 51 minutes a Erin Murray shot was parried by Christopher and Emily Allen pounced to give the Mets a two nil advantage. Aber did not let their heads go down and despite conceding a third on 58 minutes when Player of the Match Vascon went on a mazy run to slot home a brilliant solo effort – Aber dug deep and with Witts, Evans, Pugh and skipper Evans defending resiliently it was a cruel blow when on 93 minutes a good block by Evans fell into the path of Murray who slotted home the fourth . A well deserved victory by Mets but the Aber Ladies made them fight all the way for the points and with a bit of luck may well have forced a closer result than the score line suggests.
With a break for International football next week the next game is on Sunday 0ctober 16th at 2.00pm on the new 3g surface at Park Avenue – the Ladies would welcome your support so why not pop down to see the girls in action.
