Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce that local trinity of players Mathew Jones, Geoff Kellaway and Jack Rimmer have all re-signed with the club for the 2018/19 season.
All three players formed a key part of the Black and Greens' squad last season, and Town's supporters will be delighted to see them commit their futures to the club for another season. Mathew Jones emerged as one of Town's standout players last season in the left back position, putting in a number of excellent performances and proving to be one of the squad's most consistent and reliable players over the course of the JD Welsh Premier League campaign and road to the Welsh Cup Final. He made a total of 28 appearances last season, scoring 2 goals in the process, including a goal to put Town 4-3 up against Newtown in the final home game of the season. Mathew is also first Aber player to be enrolled on the club's new Scholarship Agreement with Aberystwyth University, which you can read more about here. Geoff Kellaway has been a major part of the team's attacking force for a number of years, and his pace and experience is sure to be vital yet again throughout the 2018/19 season. Geoff has played for the black and greens for a total of 14 seasons, making 270 appearances and scoring 64 goals - some remarkable statistics that earned the winger the Clubman of the Year Award at the most recent Welsh Premier League Awards Evening back in June. He's scored some crucial goals down the years including a Welsh Cup Semi-Final double against Carmarthen Town and was also named in the Welsh Premier League team of the season in 2009/2010. Jack Rimmer is an extremely talented and promising youngster who'll be looking to force his way into regular first team action this season, after impressing for Aber's magnificent double-winning Under 19's side last season. Jack was especially noticeable in Town's U19's Welsh Premier Development League Final against The New Saints in May, scoring the winning penalty his side needed to claim the National Development title. He has also captained Wales' u19's Academy Squad - experience that could prove invaluable in his progression towards the first team squad this year. The fixture also gives Aber’s supporters another opportunity to see new signings Wes Baynes and Steff Edwards in action, as the seasiders’ squad continue their preparations ahead of their JD Welsh Premier League season opener against Llandudno on August 10th. A versatile player who can play at right back or on the right wing, Wes is also known for having a powerful and accurate right foot, and his experience will undoubtedly be a great strength going into the season ahead. He's made over 70 appearances in the Welsh Premier League, and has also played four times in the Europa League Qualifying Round for Connah's Quay Nomads. Everyone at the club would like to wish Wes a warm welcome to Park Avenue and will look forward to seeing him in action during Aber's home pre-season friendly against Halesowen Town on Saturday, 21st July. Aberystwyth Town have received a major boost ahead of the 2018/19 season with the news that experienced goalkeeper Chris Mullock has committed his future to the club for another year. Chris was Aber's Number 1 between the posts last season, and joined the club for a loan spell back in September 2016, before joining permanently ahead of the 2017/18 season. The Wrexham-born 'keeper joined TNS from Cymru Alliance side, Cefn Druids in the summer of 2013 and spent the majority of the 2013/14 season on loan at Newtown after joining the Robins in September 2013.
