Aberystwyth Town's popular Matchday Programme, The Seasider, returns tomorrow in the capable hands of Joint Editors Llinos and Dilwyn Roberts Young. Costing just £2, the magazine will keep you informed all all the events surrounding the Club and will also be packed full of opinions from Town's Management Team, Players and Officials, not to mention guest columnists to boot. The Magazine is also one of the only remaining programmes in the Dafabet WPL to regularly feature Welsh language articles and is a Must Read for anyone of a Black and Green persuasion. It will be exclusively on sale at Latham Park tomorrow prior to the 2.30pm kick off. Aberystwyth Town FC would like to thank the following companies, whose advertisements will adorn the Programme this season: Aberystwyth University, Acerbis, AJ Civil Engineering, Anthony Motors, Cambrian Land Rover, Cambrian Tyres, Aber Town Club Shop, Colin Ewart Painting and Decorating, Conrah Hotel, Continental Tyres, CP Jenkins, Dafabet, DM Jones Electrics, Huw Lewis Teiars, Jewellery House, Llety Park, Lloyd Herbert & Jones, Mid Wales Travel, Mitre, Morrisons, Oriel y Bont, Penrhos Golf & Country Club, Princes Gate, Radio Ceredigion, Rees Astley, RM Teamwear, Rob Rattray, Sgorio, Ty Belgrave/ Queensbridge Hotel/Four Seasons, Vaughans, Y Lolfa. Aberystwyth Town FC were rewarded for their hard fought win at Penrhyncoch on Wednesday evening with an away tie at Haverfordwest County in the Nathaniel MG Cup Second Round, to be played on Tuesday October 4th. The tie, already viewed as a Dyfed Derby, will be given added spice as the Bluebirds' Manager of last year Wayne Jones moved to Aber in the summer along with four of his players: Ricky Watts, Greg Walters, Luke Borrelli and Sam Rodon. Haverfordwest for their part have Aber ex player Chris O'Sullivan in the Managerial Hotseat with Rhydian Davies and Steffan Williams among their cohort of onetime Black and Greens. The draw was conducted by WPL Secretary, Gwyn Derfel, former Welsh international goalkeeper, Tony Roberts and Wayne Griffiths and the full draw was as follows: Haverfordwest County v Aberystwyth Town Barry Town United v Cardiff Met Univerisity Carmarthen Town v Goytre FC The New Saints v Bala Town Guilsfield v Newtown AFC Cefn Druids v Bangor City gap Connah's Quay v Denbigh Town Llandudno FC v Rhyl FC The Matches are schedule to take place on Tuesday 4th October 2016. Dafabet Welsh Premier League Saturday 10th September (kick off 2.30pm) Aberystwyth Town v Carmarthen Town (at Newtown FC) Aberystwyth Town will have a spring in their step going into Saturday's Dafabet Welsh Premier League game against Carmarthen Town after last night's derby victory over Penrhyncoch. Chris Jones' tremendous 35 yard strike, followed by Ryan Wollacott's powerful header earned the Black and Greens a Second Round tie in the Nathaniel MG Cup on a big occasion at Cae Baker in front of a crowd of 415, and the result is sure to boost the Players' confidence going into Saturday's match. Due to ongoing work laying a 3G Surface at Park Avenue, Aberystwyth Town will play this home match at Newtown FC - the first time this has happened since June 2004, when Aber held Latvia side Dinaburg Daugavpils to a 0-0 draw in the Inter Toto Cup. Opponents Carmarthen Town had to kick their heels this week having received a bye to the League Cup Second Round, and they sit just behind Aber in the WPL table, having won one, drawn two and lost two of their matches so far. Interestingly this will be their third away game at Latham Park in succession, having previously lost 4-2 to Newtown and held Bala Town to a 0-0 draw at the home of the Robins. Both of Aber's League wins this season have come on 3G pitches, at Airbus and Llandudno, so a return to a synthetic surface may yet suit Matthew Bishop's men. A hoard of Aberystwyth Town supporters travelling over Plynlimon to turn Latham Park Green for the afternoon will also help! The Supporters Coach will leave Park Avenue at 12pm: consider yourself invited! Wednesday 7th September Nathaniel MG Cup First Round Penrhyncoch 1 Aberystwyth Town 2 A powerful header from left back Ryan Wollacott (below, left), allied to a superb 35 yard strike from Chris Jones earned the Black and Greens victory in an extremely tight game last night at Cae Baker, in front of a bumper crowd of 415. The first competitive match between these two rivals since 1989 kicked off on a warm sunny evening with both sides depleted by injuries: nevertheless after a tentative start the first half developed into a tense and enthralling battle. Daf Carruthers was first to get a shot on target for the hosts, but then Aber’s Chris Jones, the stand out player on the night, unleashed a spectacular 35 yard goalbound effort which found the net with a slight deflection from Jon Foligno, and the visitors had a tenth minute lead. Despite the lead Aber struggled to find a rhythm in the game with the final ball often going astray, and Carruthers got another shot in which Dom Richards smothered comfortably. Penrhyn threatened from set pieces but Sam Rodon and Will Bell were standing firm at centre back. Gareth Mansell sent a quick free kick inches wide of the post, while at the other end Jones saw a flicked header sail wide. Then on 27 minutes the hosts gained a deserved equaliser when livewire Elian Evans went on a buccaneering foray into Aber’s box before being felled for a penalty, and Mark Gornall did the honours. Liam Doherty threatened a lead for the homesters but Richards was again in the right place, and then back came Aber with Kostya Georgievsky testing Lee Jenkins with a grass cutter, and Will Bell seeing a long range volley deflected for a corner, which was well defended by Penrhyn. So a close first half ended with the hosts possibly marginally ahead on points, but the scores at 1-1. Playing up the slope in the second half Aber enjoyed more of the possession, with the Roosters sitting deep and looking to hit out on the break, yet inspiration was still lacking for Town. Georgievsky saw a shot blocked and then the dangerous Carruthers played in Aaron Lemon through the middle but Richards was out well to snaffle out the threat. Chances were few and far between and so Matthew Bishop brought on Blake Davies and Geoff Kellaway to make an impact – and they did. Kellaway’s pace gave Aber another threat down the right, although it was Kurtis March who unleashed another stinging 35 yarder from central midfield which Lee Jenkins had to dramatically tip over. Then on 71 minutes Chris Jones went on yet another thrilling weaving run before curling a peach of a cross into the box, and Ryan Wollacott headed home powerfully for an unassailable lead. Blake Davies held the ball up before turning and shooting just wide, and Jones sent another effort past the post as Aber looked to make things safe. Penrhyn were never likely to lie down however, and sub Dylan James tested Richards again with a free kick, before an injury time set piece saw the Aber goalie in the right place yet again to deny home keeper Lee Jenkins who had cantered forward for a last hurrah. Jonathan Evans set up Kellaway for a snap shot which fizzed over, and the game was done. The appropriate adage for last night would be something along the lines of a derby being all about the result rather than the performance, and although Aber never reached the heights last night, after a difficult week two moments of quality were enough to gain a win which was sweet indeed. Penrhyn deserve great credit for playing their part in an engrossing Cup tie, while Aber look forward to this afternoon’s Nathaniel MG Cup Second Round draw, and Saturday’s home/away Dafabet WPL game at Newtown, against Carmarthen Town. Wednesday 7th September (ko 7.45pm)
Nathaniel MG Cup First Round Penrhyncoch v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town move seamlessly from Dafabet WPL to Nathaniel MG Cars Cup action on Wednesday evening, when they visit local friends and rivals Penrhyncoch for an eagerly awaited First Round contest in the renamed WPL Cup. Penrhyn entered the Cup as one of the wildcard entrants and neither side could have asked for a bigger draw in the First Round. Although the sides are regular friendly opponents this will be their first competitive encounter since 1984/5 when for one season only Penrhyn and Aber were in the Central Wales League together. Aber beat Penrhyn on Boxing Day by 2-0, went on to win the League Trophy at Cae Baker with a 5-0 win in May 1985 - the last time an Aberystwyth Town side won its League title. The links between the Clubs are endless. Town Manager Matthew Bishop lives in Penrhyn, and striker Jonathan Evans is on his third spell at Aber from the Roosters. On the other side Penrhyn's managment team is virtually a who's who of Black and Green Stalwarts with Manager Gari Lewis and his Assistants Aneurin Thomas and Bari Morgan firmly in the legendary status. The same can be said of Sion James, and many more of Penrhyn's starting XI will have represented Aber at some level in the past. Aber picked up two injuries in Saturday's 4-0 defeat to Bangor at Nantporth so captain Luke Sherbon and Central Midfielder Joe Clarke will sit out the tie. Jack Rimmer, recently loaned to Penrhyn, is ineligible to play. The match certainly has a claim to being the Tie of the Round, and is likely to attract the biggest crowd of Round One. Kick off is at 7.45pm and it is certainly not to be missed! Headline sponsors of the Welsh Premier League, Dafabet, are offering WPL fans a chance to win a season ticket at their favourite Club.
