The Club can confirm that strong winds in Aberystwyth have knocked over two floodlight pylons at Park Avenue, meaning that tomorrow's Dafabet Welsh Premier League game against Cefn Druids - can not now be played. Aberystwyth Town FC is in the process of rearranging this game and we will inform Supporters as soon as an alternative has been agreed with all stakeholders. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the postponement. Dafabet Welsh Premier League Friday 18th November (ko 7.45pm) Aberystwyth Town v Cefn Druids Less than 48 hours remain until Aberystwyth Town's next date with destiny, as the Famous Black and Greens continue their quest for a historic Dafabet Welsh Premier League Top Six place by welcoming Cefn Druids to Park Avenue on Friday night. The intrigue in the middle of the Dafabet Welsh Premier League is relentless and the devastation felt by all in Black and Green after last Friday's match at Bala was tempered slightly by couple of favourable results on Sunday as two of Aber's Top Six rivals - Llandudno and Carmarthen - also dropped points. The upshot of it is Matthew Bishop's men have a good chance of going sixth with a win. Friday night games guarantee a superb atmosphere anyway at Park Avenue, but this week's encounter will really whet the appetite for a number of different reasons, not least as the game will showcase the Club's annual Student Promotion night. Aberystwyth University Students will be admitted for half price - a mere £2 - and Admission will include a free hot dog in the Clubhouse. University DIGS League Teams are expected to be strongly represented on the night. Last year's Student Promotion encouraged around 250 Students to turn up for the home game against TNS, and Club Media Assistant Matthew Wallace produced an excellent video giving a real flavour of the event. Pre Match Queues round the block, Cheerleaders, free Hot Dogs, DIGS Teams and many other highlights were featured and you can whet your appetite for Friday night but watching the full Matchcam here. Visitors Cefn Druids are in tenth place in the Welsh Prem but have drawn seven of their 15 matches to date, frustrating prominent sides such as Gap, Bala, Llandudno and Carmarthen along the way - so they are sure to put up a good fight in Ceredigion on Friday night. Kick off at Park Avenue on Friday is at 7.45pm and Admission will cost £6 for Adults, £4 Concessions, £2 for Students and £1 for Children. It will be the only place to be on Friday, so make sure you play your part and roar the boys to victory! Friday 11th November Bala Town 4 Aberystwyth Town 0 Aber Town had a match to forget on Remembrance Day as Bala goals from Mike Hayes (3 minutes), Kieran Smith (32 and 37 mins) and Stuart Jones (47 minutes) condemned them to a heavy defeat on Maes Tegid's new 3G Surface. On a cold night the hosts started on fire showing an intensity in their play that the visitors could not match, and it took them just three minutes to find the net as the unmarked Hayes tapped in at the far post to give the Lakesiders a dream start. Chris Venables swivelled in the box and fired over from close range, and Mullock was called on to deny Smith at close range. The Black and Greens were trying to get a foothold in the game by passing the ball around but despite a few flashes from Chris Jones down the left wing, just past the half hour a Bala corner was headed back across goal by Stuart J Jones and Smith nodded in to double the lead. Five minutes later the game was over as Smith pulled out a volley from the edge of the area for three nil. Anthony Stephens forced over and Venables shot wide, and an awful half for Aber ended with a three goal margin which in truth did not flatter the hosts. Two minutes after the break a Venables free kick crashed off the crossbar and Jones was first to react to prod home Bala's fourth, and a cricket score was on the cards. Aber did try to respond though and sub Kostya Georgievsky sent in a great right wing cross which Luke Borrelli sent inches past the post with a thrilling diving header. Next Joe Clarke broke through Bala's defence into a great position down the left but his shot from close range skewed wide. Despite this Bala were also still creating chances: Venables set up Ryan Wade who sent a volley just wide, before going close with another free kick and Smith curled a shot over from a corner. A really disappointing night for the Black and Greens was crowned by Sam Rodon's 92nd minute dismissal for kicking out at Mark Jones, and the ordeal ended at 4-0. This was one of Aber's poorest displays of the season and the players will know they need to put on a much improved show at home to Cefn Druids next Friday night (ko 7.45pm), with a Student Promotion likely to enlarge a bumper Park Avenue crowd. Redemption is just six days away. Dafabet Welsh Premier League Friday 11th November (kick off 7.45pm) Bala Town v Aberystwyth Town After a fairly successful run of four home games the Black and Greens return to the road on Friday night to visit Maes Tegid, home of fourth placed Bala Town as their quest for a Top Six placed continues. Confidence was high running into last Saturday’s match against Gap Connah’s Quay, and defending a half time lead things looked good for Matthew Bishop’s men. However Town were brought back down to earth after the break as the visitors proved their Second Placed position in the WPL was no fluke. Such is the topsy turvey nature of the WPL this season that despite that defeat Aber travel to Bala’s new 3G Facility knowing that a win would put them back into fifth position, with the remaining WPL matches of Matchday 15 being played on Sunday. Town’s goalkeeper Dom Richards, who has not featured with the first team since the start of October, has been released back to Stourport Swifts with best wishes from all at the Club, while young Jack Rimmer has been recalled from a loan spell with Penrhyncoch to bolster Bishop’s midfield options for Friday night. Bala for their part have shown a recovery of late after a difficult start to the season and despite a 3-2 home defeat to Porthmadog in a midweek friendly, their fourth placed berth is getting a bit closer to what was expected from an already successful side which recruited big in the Summer to bring in Chris Venables and Stuart Jones from Aber. A Supporters Coach costing £10 Return will leave Park Avenue at 4.15pm on Friday, and the match will be preceded by a minutes silence to show full respect for Remembrance Day, before kick off at 7.45pm. Everyone at Aberystwyth Town Football Club would like to congratulate on loan goalkeeper Chris Mullock on becoming the first ever Goalkeeper to win Sgorio's Gol y Mis Competition for October 2016. Chris' 65 yard free kick against Rhyl on October 14th has already become legendary as the first ever official goal to be scored on Park Avenue's 3G, and Nicky Ward selected it as the best Dafabet Welsh Premier League goal of the month, as announced on Sgorio this evening. To celebrate his Award you can enjoy Chris' goal just one more time by clicking on Sgorio's Gol y Mis video here! |
