ATWFC: DEV UPDATE

Aberystwyth Town Women’s Committee would like to confirm, with regret, that there will not be an Aberystwyth Town Women’s Development Team competing during the 2026/27 season.

This decision follows several challenging seasons in which the club has found it increasingly difficult to consistently field a Development Team. Player numbers have often made it difficult to fulfil fixtures and provide substitutes, placing considerable pressure on those involved both on and off the pitch. Alongside this, the disbanding of the Ceredigion Ladies League has further contributed to the challenges faced by the team. After careful consideration, the committee has therefore made the difficult decision not to enter a Development Team this season.

We are naturally disappointed that the team will not be competing in 2026/27. However, we remain hopeful that this will be a temporary situation and that, in time, the Development Team can return with the numbers, support and resources required to compete once again. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the Development Team throughout the years. Whether that be players, coaches, volunteers, families, sponsors and supporters alike. Your commitment and support have played a huge part in the team’s journey.

The Development Team has been an important part of Aberystwyth Town Women for many seasons. It has provided opportunities for players to develop, friendships to be formed and memories to be made, while also sharing some fantastic successes along the way.

Our commitment to developing women’s and girls’ football in the local area remains as strong as ever. We continue to provide opportunities for players to develop through our Under-11s grassroots team, Under-13s and Under-15s Girls Academy, Under-19s team and First Team. These pathways provide a strong foundation for the future and, we hope, will help put the club in a positive position to bring the Development Team back when the time is right.

We also recognise that the Development Team has meant a great deal to so many people who have been part of the club over the years, including those who continue to be with us today and those who, sadly, are no longer here. Their contribution, commitment and memories will always remain an important part of the Development Team’s story.

While the 2026/27 season marks a pause, this is not goodbye to the Development Team. We hope that, in time, we can rebuild, create the right foundations for the future and once again see the Dev competing proudly in Aberystwyth Town colours.
