PREVIEW: PRESTATYN TOWN (H)

Aberystwyth Town return to Welsh Cup action this Saturday as they welcome Ardal North West side Prestatyn Town to Aberystwyth University Park Avenue.

The two clubs were regular opponents throughout the 2000s and 2010s, when both competed in the Cymru Premier. They also famously met in the 2009 Welsh Cup Quarter-Final, with Aber running out convincing 5-1 winners to set up a Semi-Final clash with Carmarthen Town.

The Seasiders will face a Prestatyn side in impressive form, having gone unbeaten in competitive action since February. The visitors currently sit third in the Ardal North West, level on points with league leaders Trearddur Bay and second-placed Llannefydd. They have won six and drawn two of their eight league fixtures so far this season.

Prestatyn are now managed by Aden Shannon, who represented a number of clubs during his playing career, including Cefn Druids and Welshpool Town.

Both sides booked their places in this round with emphatic victories. Prestatyn defeated Llanrwst 6-1 in the First Round, while Aber comfortably dispatched Menai Bridge Tigers.

The visitors arrive in Aberystwyth on the back of a 5-0 victory over Broughton United last weekend, extending their winning run to four consecutive matches dating back to mid-September.

Tom Hilditch will be one to watch for Prestatyn, having found the net seven times already this season. Alex Jones has also been influential in attack, registering four assists alongside a goal of his own.

With both sides enjoying positive runs of form, Saturday promises to be an intriguing Welsh Cup encounter as Aber look to continue their journey in the competition.
