REPORT: ATWFC 0 - 4 CARDIFF CITY WOMEN

Aberystwyth Town Women delivered a committed and resilient performance at Park Avenue, pushing a strong Cardiff City Women side throughout a match that was shown live on S4C streaming services.

In front of a fantastic home crowd, Aber started brightly and with real discipline, working tirelessly to close down space and frustrate a Cardiff side known for their technical quality. The visitors enjoyed much of the possession but found clear opportunities hard to come by, thanks to Aber’s organised defensive shape and collective effort.

Cardiff eventually took the lead in the 17th minute when Lisa Owen finished from close range following a cross that Aber were unable to fully clear. Despite the setback, Aber responded positively, staying compact and continuing to battle for every ball. Their hard work limited Cardiff to that single goal, and the hosts went into the break just 1–0 down, with plenty of encouragement to take from the first-half display.

Aber continued to show determination and fight after the restart, with Cardiff still struggling to break through an organised defence. However, in the 55th minute, Mackenzie Olden doubled the visitors’ advantage with a close-range header from a lofted cross.

A handball inside the box later in the half resulted in a penalty, which Laura Curnock converted to extend Cardiff’s lead. Aber made several changes in response, injecting fresh energy and continuing to compete with intensity, backed by vocal support from the stands.

Cardiff added a fourth goal at the final kick of the game as substitute Ffion Price struck from long range, though the scoreline did not reflect the level of resistance shown by Aber across the 90 minutes.

There were plenty of positives for the home side, particularly the togetherness, work rate, and resilience displayed against one of the league’s top teams. The support from the Park Avenue crowd was outstanding throughout and made a real difference on the pitch.

Attention now turns to Phase Two, with confidence drawn from the spirit shown in this performance and belief high as Aberystwyth Town Women look ahead with determination.
