REPORT: WREXHAM AFC WOMEN 3 - 2 ATWFC

Aberystwyth Town Women delivered one of their most complete and courageous performances of the season on Sunday afternoon, pushing title-challengers Wrexham all the way in a thrilling 3–2 contest at The Rock Stadium. Despite the narrow defeat, the Seasiders showcased outstanding attacking quality, tactical discipline and unshakeable character, leaving North Wales with pride and momentum.

After conceding an early goal inside the opening minutes, many teams might have folded under the pressure of the league leaders, but Aberystwyth responded with authority and belief. The Seasiders grew into the match swiftly, pressing confidently and attacking with real intent. Their reward came in the 15ᵗʰ minute when Amy Jenkins shot from distanced nestled in the Wrexham net, levelling the score.

Moments later, Jenkins struck again. Exploiting space behind the Wrexham back line, Seren Evans on her first senior start for the club delivered a great ball into the box that was met by Amy Jenkins outstretched foot, completing a stunning turnaround and silencing the home crowd. At 2–1, Aberystwyth were full value for their lead, playing some of their best football of the campaign.

Just as Aber looked set to carry their advantage into half-time, Wrexham found a moment of individual brilliance to equalise from distance. While the goal shifted momentum, it did nothing to diminish the quality or confidence of the Aberystwyth performance.

The hosts retook the lead early in the second half, but from that moment on Aberystwyth showed tremendous resilience. The midfield worked tirelessly to break down attacks, the back line stood firm under pressure, and the front three continued to threaten on the counter. There were moments late in the game when an equaliser felt within reach, as Aber pushed forward with ambition and refused to let Wrexham settle. Every player in green and black left absolutely everything on the pitch, a display that earned admiration from both sets of supporters.

Though the match ended 3–2, the narrow scoreline tells only part of the story. This was a performance defined by bravery, quality and togetherness from Aberystwyth Town Women. If Aberystwyth continue to play with the intensity, confidence and creativity shown at The Rock, more victories and more memorable performances are surely on the horizon. This display will give the squad huge belief heading into the next run of fixtures, and supporters can take enormous pride in the way the team represented the club.
