PREVIEW: CAERAU ELY (H)

Fresh from an impressive 3-1 victory away to third-placed Pontypridd United last weekend, Aberystwyth Town face another top-four challenge this Saturday as Craig Williams and his side welcome Caerau Ely to Aberystwyth University Park Avenue.

Saturday’s victory kept Aber just one point behind league leaders Pure Swansea and extended the Seasiders’ unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions. Aaron Williams was once again on the scoresheet, taking his tally to the top of the league’s goalscoring charts - although other results on Tuesday evening have since changed the standings.

Caerau Ely arrive in Aberystwyth in impressive form themselves, having recorded four consecutive league victories. Their recent upturn follows an indifferent start to the campaign, which ultimately resulted in the departure of manager Dean Wheeler, as the club look to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish.

Ben Stait has since been appointed as Wheeler’s successor, and the team’s improved fortunes have seen him nominated for September’s Manager of the Month award.

Liam Bishop and Tim Parker currently lead the scoring charts for the visitors, with five goals apiece. Bishop has also contributed six assists, highlighting the attacking threat Caerau Ely will bring to Park Avenue.

Caerau Ely had the upper hand in both meetings between the sides last season, securing a 1-0 victory at Cwrt-yr-Ala in December before recording a 4-0 win at Park Avenue in February.

However, this is a very different Aberystwyth Town side this season, and Saturday’s fixture promises to be a mouthwatering contest between two sides with genuine promotion ambitions.

Come and join us at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue and get behind the Seasiders as the lads look to continue their push for the top of the table!
