PREVIEW: CARMARTHEN TOWN (A)

Aberystwyth Town renew acquaintances with long-standing rivals Carmarthen Town this Saturday evening, looking to keep pressure on leaders Pontypridd Utd upon whom Town hold three games in hand.

Craig Williams will be encouraged by his side's response to the home defeat against Caerau Ely on October 10th, with back-to-back victories since then putting the Seasiders in a strong position to build momentum and further strengthen their promotion ambitions.

Carmarthen Town are, of course, familiar opponents for anyone who follows Aberystwyth Town. This was once a regular fixture on the football calendar, with the two sides meeting no fewer than six times during the 2010/11 season. Surprisingly, however, Saturday's encounter will be only the third meeting between the clubs during the 2020s.

Last season's meetings saw the Old Gold claim all three points at Richmond Park in August 2025, courtesy of a goal from theexperienced Luke Cummings, before the sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw on New Year's Day.

Long-standing Seasiders supporters will have plenty of fond memories of previous encounters between the clubs. Among them is the emphatic 5-0 victory in 2016, inspired by Geoff Kellaway, who famously claimed a hat-trick. The Black and Green legend was also on the scoresheet twice in another memorable meeting: the 2009 Welsh Cup semi-final, whencurrent Assistant Manager Freddie Thomas scored the decisive winner in extra time.

The hosts currently occupy ninth position in the league table, having collected 15 points from their opening 12 matches, with four victories and three draws. However, Carmarthen come into Saturday's fixture looking to arrest a disappointing run of form, having lost their last three matches and gone five games without a victory in all competitions. Their most recent outing saw them suffer a 2-1 defeat away to Pontardawe Town last weekend.

Lewis Reed has been Carmarthen's leading attacking threat this season, finding the net seven times so far. Experienced forward Liam Thomas has contributed a further five goals, while Hari Jones and Ryan Bevan have three apiece.

Carmarthen's Richmond Park is situated to the north-east of the town centre and can be located using postcode SA31 1HZ. There are two public car parks immediately adjacent to the ground, one on either side.

For those unable to make the journey, Saturday's fixture will also be streamed live on Cymru Football TV, marking the first time a Cymru South league fixture has been broadcast on the platform.
