PREVIEW: HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY (H)

Unbeaten so far in pre-season, Craig Williams’ Aberystwyth Town continue their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign on Friday evening as they welcome Novira Cymru Premier side Haverfordwest County to Aberystwyth University Park Avenue.

After opening pre-season with a goalless draw against Newtown on 27th June, the Seasiders produced an impressive display to defeat Caersws 3-0 in Saturday’s second Mid Wales derby in the space of a week. A solid all-round performance, combined with clinical finishing after the break, saw Dillon Browne (52’), Josh Ferreira (64’) and Tom Mason (73’) all find the net to secure a deserved victory.

Friday’s fixture represents another step up in quality, with Tony Pennock’s Haverfordwest County providing a stern test. The Bluebirds narrowly missed out on European qualification last season after finishing seventh in the Cymru Premier before suffering defeat in the play-off final, and Pennock has wasted little time in strengthening his squad ahead of the new campaign.

New arrivals include experienced defender Clayton Green, goalkeeper Lucas Myers and striker Lewis Rees, while the Bluebirds have also retained the core of last season’s squad. Familiar faces returning to Park Avenue include former Seasiders Owain Jones, Greg Walters and Ricky Watts.

With just three weeks remaining until Aberystwyth Town begin their 2026/27 Novira Cymru South campaign, preparations are gathering momentum, and Friday’s encounter offers another valuable opportunity for Craig Williams and his squad to continue building confidence ahead of the new season.
