Aberystwyth Town face a difficult challenge this weekend as they travel to league leaders Trefelin BGC, aiming to bounce back from a couple of disappointing league results and reignite their push for third place.

The task could hardly be tougher. Trefelin are currently on a remarkable 14-match winning streak in the league and sit top of the table with 60 points. A victory this weekend would guarantee them a top three finish which, subject to licensing approval, would secure their place in next season’s newly structured JD Cymru Premier.
The Port Talbot side, managed by former Llanelli and Briton Ferry boss Andy Hill, come into the match following a 3–1 home win over Cardiff Draconians on Wednesday evening. That result followed a narrow 1–0 victory away at Llantwit Major last weekend.
Their squad also features a couple of familiar faces for Aber supporters. Kostya Georgievsky spent time with the Black & Greens during the 2016–17 season, while Luke Bowen scored 17 goals in his single campaign at Park Avenue in 2009–10.
Bowen has once again been among the goals this season and currently sits second in the league scoring charts with 12 goals. Tyler Brock is close behind with 11, while Jasper Jones and Roan Piper have each contributed seven.
The previous meeting between the sides proved to be a dramatic affair. Aber delivered a determined performance at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue in November, but two late goals ultimately handed victory to the visitors.
In a tight contest, Ethan O’Toole was sent off for a second yellow card in the 61st minute. Trefelin then struck late through Lewys Ware (89 minutes) before Jasper Jones sealed the points deep into stoppage time (90+10).
Saturday’s match takes place at Ynys Park (postcode SA12 8RB). The Ynys Park Sports Bar and Food Cabin will be open from 12:30pm. Stick with us, Green Army, as Aber go in search of a response against the league leaders!
