PREVIEW: TREOWEN STARS

Following an impressive opening-day victory at Afan Lido last weekend, Aberystwyth Town return to Ceredigion for their first home league fixture of the season as they welcome Treowen Stars to Aberystwyth University Park Avenue.

It further promises to be a memorable day as the Club welcomes 2-Star Michelin chef Gareth Ward for his first matchday pop-up of the season from 1pm – with discounted adult entry for just £5!

Craig Williams' side made an eye-catching start to the campaign, with five different players finding the net in a performance that highlighted the attacking options now available to the Seasiders. The match also featured eight debutants, alongside two players making their second debuts for the club, underlining the fresh look and exciting potential within this newly assembled squad.

This Saturday's visitors, Treowen Stars, are celebrating their centenary year and are preparing for their second season in the Cymru South since earning promotion as Ardal South East champions in 2023/24. The club has a proud history at a higher level, having spent much of the 1990s competing towards the top end of Welsh Division One before a series of relegations in the early 2000s.

Ben Murphy's side enjoyed a respectable ninth-place finish last season and also reached the Welsh Blood Service League Cup Final. They were one of the division's most entertaining teams, with only three clubs scoring more goals. However, they also proved vulnerable defensively, with only relegated Cwmbran Celtic conceding more.

There has been notable movement in the Treowen squad over the summer. Goalkeeper Cameron Clarke has departed and has been replaced by Shaun Gardiner, while Elliott Humphries, Lewis Green and Jordan Needs have also moved on. Arriving at the club are wingers Ryan Wheeler and Lloyd Oliver from Goytre, while the headline signing is former Cambrian United and Llanelli Town striker Tom Hillman, who netted twice on his debut last week as Treowen lost 3-2 at home to Pontypridd.

Aber completed the league double over Treowen last season. A dramatic 3-2 victory away from home in October was sealed by Richie Ricketts' 93rd-minute winner, before Jonny Evans scored twice in a 2-1 home win on Valentine's Day.

With confidence high after last weekend's performance, the Seasiders will be aiming to build further momentum in front of the Park Avenue faithful.
