PREVIEW: TRETHOMAS BLUEBIRDS (A)

Aberystwyth Town will look to return to winning ways this Saturday as they take on Trethomas Bluebirds, last season’s JD Cymru South runners-up.

The Seasiders currently sit eighth in the table, but with a game in hand on most of the teams above them, they remain well placed to mount a serious challenge for a top-three spot as the season progresses.

Trethomas Bluebirds are new opponents for the Black & Greens, though the club’s history dates back to 1903. In more recent years, they joined the Gwent County League in 2003, earning promotion to Division Two as champions in 2005–06, followed by another promotion to Division One in 2012–13.

In 2024, the Bluebirds were promoted to the JD Cymru South and exceeded expectations last season—leading the division for long spells before ultimately finishing as runners-up to Llanelli Town.

It has, however, been a turbulent summer for the club. Manager Mark Dunford departed for Pontypridd United, taking ten players with him. Former Afan Lido boss Paul Evans is now at the helm and has had to rebuild his squad almost from scratch.

Evans’ new-look side have recorded two wins and five draws from their eleven league matches to date, leaving them 10th in the table on 11 points. They head into this weekend’s game on the back of a 3–0 defeat to surprise package Cardiff Draconians.

Trethomas Bluebirds play at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence on Caerphilly Road, Ystrad Mynach (postcode: CF82 7EP).

Tickets: £5 adults, £3 concessions, U16s free.

Come along and get behind the Seasiders — your support could make all the difference this Saturday!
