REPORT: ATFC 4-0 LLANELLI TOWN

The free-scoring Black and Greens again entertained a large home Bank Holiday crowd with a dominant 4-0 victory over Llanelli yesterday afternoon. Dan Owen kicked off the scoring on 43 minutes, and Dillon Browne doubled the lead fifteen minutes later. Richie Ricketts made it three on 71 minutes, and Browne added a fourth two minutes later to send Aber up into third place in the JD Cymru South.

A decent crowd of 422 showed their backing for the resurgent Seasiders, and Town were on top from the start, despite playing against a blustery breeze in the first half. Owen touched the ball just wide and Aaron Williams saw a shot blocked before Cole Gibbings headed McCauley Power's free-kick just over the bar for the visitors. Owen, Rhys Hughes and Owen again were all denied by Joseph Massaro in Llanelli's goal, then at the other end Keane Whitmore sent a shot over the bar in riposte.

Back came Aber: Leo Thompson tested Massaro with a free-kick from distance, before setting up captain Liam Walsh, whose effort flew over the bar. Williams was next to be denied by the visiting shot-stopper, but then, two minutes before the break, came another magic moment from Dan Owen. He picked up the ball down the left flank, took it past his marker down the touchline, then carried the ball along the dead-ball line and beat another defender before flicking it past Massaro at the near post for a sparkling goal! So Town went in at half-time with a deserved lead, and hopefully more to come.

Llanelli were first to threaten after the break, as Whitmore hit the post with a cheeky effort, but then normal service was resumed as Ben Davies was denied at the near post. With the hosts playing some nice attacking football, Williams had a shot blocked, then crossed for Browne to head just past the post. With the sun peeping out on an overcast day by the seaside, the Mach maestro finally made it two, winning the ball at the edge of the area before picking out the bottom corner with an excellent low strike. Owen then cut inside and kissed the post with a low effort, Davies sent an effort wide and Tom Evans nodded over, with Aber now on top.

Two substitutes combined next as Tarran Hollinshead picked out the returning Richie Ricketts, who curled the ball into the bottom corner with his second touch of the game. Just two minutes later, Hollinshead picked out Browne, and he rounded the keeper to touch home for four-nil. More chances followed, as Browne fired wide, Tom Evans brought out a great save from Massaro with a header, and Thompson sent a free-kick inches wide in injury time, but Aber ended the game more than happy with a comfortable four-goal win.

Four wins out of five, with sixteen goals to boot, means Aber have made a very promising start to their Cymru South campaign. They currently sit in third place, a point behind joint leaders Pure Swansea and Pontypridd United. Craig Williams' men are without a game next weekend and return to action on Saturday 12th September with a visit to Caerphilly Athletic for a 2.30pm kick-off.
