Aberystwyth Town Women secured a vital three points at Park Avenue on Sunday afternoon as they came from behind to defeat Pontypridd United Women 2–1, an important result in what is proving to be a defining period of the season.

The first half unfolded as a tense and closely contested affair, with both sides battling for control but unable to create many clear opportunities. With so much at stake for both clubs, caution dictated much of the opening 45 minutes, resulting in a cagey start and limited attacking breakthroughs.
The visitors struck first shortly after the interval. In the 52nd minute, Pontypridd found joy through the middle as a well-timed pass split the Aber defence, allowing Madison Lloyd to break through and finish clinically to put her side 1–0 up.
Going behind proved to be the spark Aber needed. The hosts responded immediately, lifting their intensity and pressing higher up the pitch. Their pressure soon told. After a pinpoint corner delivery from Shauna Chambers, Imi Scourfield was bundled over inside the area, leaving the referee no hesitation in awarding a penalty. Up stepped Libby Isaac, who coolly dispatched the spot-kick in the 58th minute to level the match.
With momentum fully in their favour, Aberystwyth continued to push for a winner, and their determination was rewarded late on. In the 83rd minute, Chambers once again provided the decisive delivery from a corner. Her expertly placed ball to the near post was met by Rebecca Mathias, whose clever low flick crept beyond the Pontypridd goalkeeper to complete the turnaround and send the home crowd into celebrations.
Aberystwyth saw out the remaining minutes with composure to secure a hard-fought and hugely important victory. The result lifts them to 12 points in the Genero Adran Premier, placing them 6th in the table as the league approaches its festive break.
Attention now turns to two challenging fixtures against a high-flying Wrexham side before Christmas. Aber will look to build on this performance, continuing to show the resilience, character, and togetherness that have become central to their season so far.
