REPORT: ATWFC 2 - 3 BARRY TOWN UTD WOMEN

Aberystwyth Town Women showed real spirit at Park Avenue on Sunday afternoon but were left heartbroken as Barry Town United snatched a late winner against the run of play.

The visitors started brightly and stunned Aber with two early goals, striking in the 9th and 23rd minutes to take control of the first half. Despite battling hard, Aber went into the break 2–0 down and with work to do.

Whatever was said at half time clearly had an effect. Aber came out flying after the restart, and within two minutes had halved the deficit. A surging run down the wing by Lily Moralee-Hughes and a pinpoint cross forced an own goal in the 47th minute, giving the Seasiders the lifeline they needed.

Momentum stayed with Aber and the equaliser soon followed. In the 55th minute, Carys Bufton’s superb delivery was met at the near post by Sian Evans, who finished with composure to bring the game back to 2–2.

From there, Aber looked the stronger side, pushing forward and creating chances as Barry sat deeper. It felt as though the home side were on top and the winner was coming but football can be cruel. Against the run of play, Barry struck on the counterattack in the 81st minute, restoring their lead with what proved to be the decisive goal. Despite throwing everything forward in the closing stages, Aberystwyth couldn’t find a way back and were left to reflect on a spirited display that ultimately brought no points.

There was, however, a special moment on the day as 15-year-old Lita Egan made her senior debut for the club. A proud occasion for both her and Aber Town Women.

Finally, the team would like to thank every supporter who came down to Park Avenue to cheer the girls on. Your backing makes all the difference, and we can’t wait to see you all again. Keep turning up and supporting this group as we continue to fight for every point.
