REPORT: ATWFC 7 - 0 CPDM Y FELINHELI

On a poignant Sunday afternoon at Park Avenue, Aberystwyth Town Women began their Adran Trophy campaign in reflective fashion. Before kick-off, the Last Post rang out prior to both teams and supporters observed a solemn minute’s silence, honouring those who served and sacrificed. All members of the ATWFC squad including staff wore black armbands for the game.

With emotions running high and purpose in the air, the Seasiders channelled their focus into producing a thrilling 7–0 victory to open their Trophy run in style.

This was the first match of the competition for Aber, and they wasted no time setting the tone. In the 12th minute, Sioned Kersey, bright, brave, and energetic from the outset, drove into the penalty area and was clipped by a defender. She stood over the spot-kick with the poise of a seasoned veteran and coolly struck home her first senior goal, giving Aber the perfect start to their Trophy journey.

Just two minutes later, the Seasiders doubled their lead. A wicked Shauna Chambers corner dropped dangerously inside the box, sparking chaos among the Felinheli defence. As bodies scrambled, Amy Jenkins reacted quickest, pouncing to tap the ball over the line and send Aber into a deserved 2–0 lead.

With confidence flowing, Aberystwyth’s football grew slick, sharp, and purposeful. Their third goal, arriving on 33 minutes, was a showcase of everything they had been working towards, a rapid sequence of neat passing opened up space, Amy Jenkins slipped an intelligent ball through the defence, and Imi Scourfield timed her run perfectly before sweeping a confident finish into the bottom corner.

Just before the half-time whistle, Aber struck again, and once more it was Jenkins. Youngster Branwen Orchard produced a dazzling run down the left wing, beating her marker and cutting the ball back into the danger zone. Jenkins was waiting, timing her arrival brilliantly to guide the ball home for her second of the afternoon, capping off an electric first half from the Seasiders.

The second half brought no let-up in intensity. Aber continued to dictate the tempo and stretch the pitch, and their fifth goal on 71 minutes was a joy to watch. Substitute Lily Moralee-Hughes, bursting with pace and hunger, whipped in a beautifully measured cross that met the run of Jess Baker, who finished the brilliantly well-worked move with calm precision.

Barely two minutes later, the same combination struck again. Moralee-Hughes delivered another superb ball from the flank, and Baker, arriving perfectly on cue, coolly slotted home her second in quick succession to make it 6–0.

Aberystwyth’s final goal came in the 82nd minute and was the product of yet another moment of excellent team play. After a patient spell of possession, Rebecca Mathias threaded a clever pass into the feet of Libby Isaac. Showing great composure, Isaac fired into the corner to complete the scoring and deliver a fitting finale to a commanding team performance.

This emphatic opening win not only sends Aberystwyth through to the quarter-finals of the Adran Trophy but also builds valuable momentum as the competition progresses. The Seasiders have drawn Wrexham in the next round of the cup which is to be played on Sunday 14th December. Back-to-back trips to Wrexham await the Black and Greens with their last league fixture of 2025 taking place on 7th December.

A seven-goal display, a clean sheet, and a united team performance, Aberystwyth Town Women could not have asked for a stronger start to their Adran Trophy campaign.
