ER COF / IN MEMORY: JONNY PREECE

Aberystwyth Town FC are saddened to hear of the passing of John Preece at the age of 92.

He signed as a full back in August 1957, following a trial after the club had lost all of their professional players from the previous season. Formerly of Hereford United and Presteigne St. Andrews, he was one of team manager Ernie Richards’ signings during his brief spell in charge at Park Avenue following Bryn Davies’ resignation.

He made his first team debut in the first home match of the season, which ended in a 1-2 reverse against Haverfordwest County.  By December, following a poor start to the season, Bryn Davies was back in the hot seat.  John went on to appear in 37 Welsh League and Cup matches for the Black & Green, before departing the club for Ebbw Vale at the end of that 1957-58 season.

John spoke very fondly of his one season at Aberystwyth Town and the club extends its deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this very sad time.
