Last week the football club launched the pre orders for the club sticker book, the reception for the idea has been amazing. We have received coverage on Radio Cymru, Radio Wales, S4C, Y Golwg as well as coverage across the BBC website, and with pre orders coming in from around Wales, the UK and an order from Chicago; we're worldwide.

Below is from the interview of the clubs Commercial Manager, Damian Burgess, who spoke to Golwg magazine last week about his idea to create the sticker book.

Firstly, what’s the idea behind the sticker book?

So the idea behind the sticker book was to firstly get the players faces in front of the fans, I know we have a new squad of players and I want the fans the get to know them, what better way than collecting stickers. 

Another reason was to give fans of all ages something unique to collect and to trade with their friends, I have fond memories of sticker books in the nineties, saving up any loose change and heading to the shop on the weekend, only to get a full packet of Les Ferdinand and Tony Adams. With a sticker book of a local team and some local players, I hope it gives the players a lift, the fans a lift and create a unique connection between club and fan.

Last reason is probably somewhat educational, featured in the book will be 8 legend players, these aren’t the only legends and more will be added in sticker books next season. The chosen legends will create some debate I’m sure, create conversation but also give some fans an education on the previous great players the club has had and the contribution they have made to the town. We will include stats about these legends too, their goals, appearances and more.

What do the players think of the idea?

The players love the idea, I think they can’t wait to see their own face on a sticker, management too. I’m sure most of the players will be purchasing packs of stickers every week to complete the set. We have a shiny too, every sticker book needs a shiny.

Are you aware of any other Welsh teams who have similar sticker books?

This is a unique project, I know we aren’t the first team ever to create a sticker book, but I’m sure we are one of the first Welsh teams to do so. Like our popular matchday programme, we know the importance of a physical product in our fans hands, the feedback already to the sticker book going live online has been amazing. Pre orders and messages, it makes the hard work of producing it worthwhile when the fans get on board.

Packs of stickers will be available on matchday at our clubshop. We will have the sticker books and packs of stickers in stock from the 30th August, we play Baglan in the cup that day so can’t wait to welcome you all to Park Avenue.
