GRUFF RETURNS!

Aberystwyth Town Football Club are pleased to welcome young midfielder Gruff Sedgwick back to the Club, re-joining from Mid Wales neighbours Newtown AFC.

16-year-old local lad Gruff came through Town’s Academy until Under-13 age group before joining The Robins’ Academy at Under-14s age. He soon progressed through U15 to U16s and frequently played ahead of his age for the Club’s U19 Development side in the FAW National Academi North Development League.

He was named in his first senior squad on New Year’s Day 2026 away at Caersws FC before making his senior debut in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup as a late substitute in February. He was awarded his first minutes in the JD Cymru North the next month against Gresford Athletic and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 respectively.

Later in Spring, Gruff was one of four Ceredigion representatives selected to the Welsh Schools U16s squads that first travelled to face Manchester United Academy at Carrington and later facing England Independent Schools at Burnham FC, Buckinghamshire.

Gruff now returns to his hometown club to continue his progression in the senior game.

He commented:

“I’m really pleased to be joining the club. Having come through the academy setup, I have a lot of good memories here, and it’s great to be back involved.

When Craig got in touch, it was an easy decision. I’ve worked with him before at Newtown Academy, and I’m excited about the opportunity to play for him again.

My strengths are getting on the ball, driving forward, and supporting the attack. I’m looking forward to contributing to the squad and helping the club achieve its goals this season.”

Manager Craig Williams added:

“Gruff is a young midfield player with exciting potential, and we’re looking forward to seeing his development over the coming season.

He has a strong background, having represented both the Aberystwyth and Newtown academies, as well as being part of the Welsh Representative Squads.
