PREVIEW: BARRY TOWN UTD (H)

After three consecutive league victories, Aberystwyth Town turn their attention to JD Welsh Cup action this weekend as Callum McKenzie’s side host JD Cymru Premier outfit Barry Town United.

Last weekend’s hard-fought win at Treowen Stars once again demonstrated the team’s resilience and ability to find a way to win under pressure. With Aber set to face higher-tier opposition this Saturday, many may view the Seasiders as underdogs — but this side has shown time and again that they are capable of rising to the challenge.

Unfortunately, due to a red card from a previous season's campaign, the in-form Jonathan Evans is unavailable for selection having been in scintillating form since returning on loan from Briton Ferry Llansawel. This, however, could see opportunities provided elsewhere in the squad.

Barry Town United are familiar visitors to Park Avenue and have already faced Aberystwyth this season in the Nathaniel MG Cup. On that occasion, a late Callum Sainty strike secured victory for Steve Jenkins’ side. Encounters between these two clubs are traditionally tight affairs — indeed, only one of the last fifteen meetings has been decided by more than a single goal. Last season, Barry claimed three wins from four, while Aber took all three points at Park Avenue in August 2024.

The visitors arrive in Ceredigion without a win in their last four matches, though they began the campaign brightly and currently occupy sixth place in the JD Cymru Premier with three wins and six draws from thirteen fixtures. Their attacking output has been well distributed across the squad, with six players scoring twice already. Robbie Willmott has been particularly influential, contributing four assists and proving a key creative threat.

Barry earned a valuable point last weekend against high-flying Caernarfon Town, with goals from Eliot Richards and Callum Sainty ensuring a 2–2 draw.

Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and £5 for concessions at the gate. Primary school children and junior league players can attend free of charge.

Join us at Park Avenue as JD Welsh Cup action returns to Aberystwyth — and cheer on the Black and Greens as they look to continue their impressive run of form!
