PREVIEW: LLANELLI TOWN (H)

Aberystwyth Town fans are being treated to a Bank Holiday bonanza of football at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue this weekend, as the Seasiders welcome Llanelli Town to Ceredigion just three days after hosting Pontardawe Town with a 1-0 home win.

The visitors have returned to the second tier after one season back in the Cymru Premier, where they won just three league matches throughout the campaign. Experienced manager Terry Boyle remains at the helm after returning to Stebonheath midway through last season to replace Lee John, and he has overseen a significant overhaul of the squad during the summer.

Sean Cronin, Jamie Baker, Joe Hopkins, Joe Lloyd and Danny Williams are among those to have departed – and in recent days, summer acquisitions Calum Salter and John Hall have joined Afan Lido after just three games.

There are several new faces in the Llanelli squad, including former ATFC full-back Miles John, who made eight appearances in the Black & Green under Gavin Allen in 2020 and returns to Llanelli after two years away.

Fellow new arrivals Keane Whitmore and Jack Cooper will also be looking to make an impact as Boyle looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Cymru South.

Llanelli come into the game in 15th place having picked up two points in their opening five matches – drawing 2-2 with Carmarthen Town on Friday night as the Old Gold equalised in the 92nd minute.

Although this was once a regular fixture in the Cymru Premier, Monday’s match will be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs in seven years. The sides did face each other in a pre-season friendly in July 2024, with Llanelli securing a 1–0 victory.

With a Bank Holiday atmosphere expected at Park Avenue and another big crowd set to get behind the Black & Greens, Aber will be hoping to make home advantage count and give the Green Army a second Bank Holiday victory to cheer!
