Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to confirm the return of Liam Walsh for the 2026/27 JD Cymru South campaign, joining for his second spell at the club following a season with JD Cymru Premier side Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Formerly of Swindon Town and Wrexham AFC — where he made one National League appearance — Liam's first taste of Welsh football came as a youngster with Prestatyn Town during the 2014/15 season before joining Carmarthen Town in 2017.
Liam then moved to Penybont, where he became a regular contributor, remaining at the South Wales club until the end of the 2021/22 season. In his final campaign, Liam made 26 appearances as Penybont finished sixth and reached the JD Welsh Cup Final, narrowly losing 3–2 to The New Saints.
A six-month spell at then-JD Cymru South side Barry Town followed before he stepped back up to the JD Cymru Premier for Town's run-in in 2022/23, featuring in all of the club's final 12 matches as survival was secured.
Liam quickly became a highly popular and ever-present figure at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue over the next two-and-a-half years, amassing 76 appearances across all competitions at right-back and in defensive midfield. He scored his only goal to date in January 2024 as 10-man Town earned an important — and ultimately vital — 1–0 home victory over Colwyn Bay, a result that helped secure survival on the final day of the season.
Now 29, Liam returns after a season away and is set to play a crucial role in Craig Williams' squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
Manager Craig Williams commented:
“I'm very pleased to be able to bring Liam back to the club. He’ll be no stranger to Aberystwyth Town fans, having played over 75 games for the club in recent seasons.
Liam will bring quality and determination on the pitch, as well as real experience and leadership off it, and his signing is a huge boost for us as a group. Welcome back, Liam!”
Liam told us:
"I am delighted to be back playing for Aberystwyth after a season at Cardiff Met.
From the MG Cup Final to staying up on the final day of the season (twice!), I have a lot of fond memories and made some lifelong friendships along the way.
When Craig set out his vision for the season and asked me to join, it was an easy decision for me. I’m really looking forward to getting started with Craig and the rest of the coaching staff.
There are some fantastic people involved at the club. Operating behind the scenes, they give a lot of time, money, and effort, helping to make the club what it is. I hope I can repay that with some good performances this season.
I’m sure my dad, who loved watching me play in the Black and Green, would be very proud of my decision to return."
